Do they advance the cartoon stories at all? Do they feature non-toy characters? If so, I might pick them up.

Assuming you're talking about the comics, and not the children's books, if you're a fan of animated, you'll likely enjoy them.

    They're badass. Highly recommended.

Love the story between Starscream and Professor Princess.

I got the first five of them in the post today. Just read the first one so far, it stuck to the show's plot, but I really enjoyed it. Looking forward to reading the rest.

I recommend them. Good stories (written by Isenberg!), plus they fill in a few of the blanks in the show itself.

My favorite is The Bulkhead story with Powel Motors.

This should be in the comics forum.

Okay, hold on, now, need to clarify something here. IDW have done two separate Animated things. They've done (and are continuing to do) a series of small books, which are screencap-comics based directly on the cartoon episodes. I think there are something like ten of these. Your reference to multiple "volumes" makes me think you might be thinking of these, not realising what they are.

The other thing they've done, which is what everyone's referring to here, is "The Arrival", a five-issue mini-series full of new stories written by Isenberg. It is collected in one graphic novel. That's the height of the new material, just that one book.
