Being quite pleased with the GravityBots, I thought that I would look at the Animated Activators as desk toys.

What are the general opinions on these, and which ones should I definately get and which ones should I avoid?

I like the look of Soundwave and Bulkhead, and maybe Grimlock.

    Thanks.

I have Soundwave, Bumblebee, and Ratchet (the last two came with the Target exclusive Soundwave and Sunstorm) and they are perfect for desk play. Lots of fun to just pick up and fiddle with and way more articulated than the Gravitybots. I would definitely recommend Soundwave and it sounds like Grimlock is good too. However, it sounds like you should avoid Lockdown at all costs!

Starscream is the only one I have, but he's pretty fun. As a bonus, his null rays are more show-accurate than his Voyager incarnation.

If you can track down Cliffjumper, def pick him up as he only comes as an activators figure in the Animated series(he actually has his own head scultp!). And ofcourse Bumblebee

Starscream, Ratchet, Bumblebee, Patrol Bumblebee, Thundercracker, Bulkhead, Megatron, Grimlock, Fireblast Grimlock, Optimus Prime, Lockdown, Bandit Lockdown, Dirge, Cliffjumper, and Soundwave.

If I can just find battlefield bumblebee and power armor prime. I'll have all of them.

Don't buy lockdown unless your going completionist. bulkhead is also weaker. The others have nice show accurate lines and flawless spring loaded transformations.

They're all REALLY fun, but the best ones are :Bumblebee, Cliffjumper, Starscream, Megatron. Ratchet, soundwave and Grimlock.
    Lockdown really is awful though.

Seekers, Bumblebee/Cliffjumper, and Ratchet I highly recommend. Grimlock is solid, Prime is solid in robot mode, but just OK in alt mode, while Megatron is in the middle for both.

BB and Ratchet I got from those $5 Shockwave and Sunstorm sets. Definitely worth full price - made better when practically free! BB is definitely the best one, though.

Just so more people know. The bumblebee in that two pack has a varient autobot symbol.

Just look at the autobot symbol eyes. One symbol is movie style and one is animated.
The two pack uses the animated insignia.

I only have three; Ratchet, Cliffjumper and Grimlock. I'd recommend all three. Cliffy and Grimmy mostly :)

Bumblebee, his repaints and Cliffjumper are awesome. I also have Ratchet and Optimus and I'm not nearly as impressed with those two.

Thanks for the replies, guys. Going on a mix of advice from here, and my own preferences, I plan on picking up...

    - Soundwave
    - Dirge or Thundercracker
    - Megatron

    Some questions...

    Dirge, or Thundercracker? Or Starscream?

Why is Bulkhead so bad? He looks pretty cool from the pictures.

Ratchet looks a mess to me.... what am I missing?

I may pick up Grimlock (preferably Fireblast), any more opinions on this one?

    Thanks again.

Megatron is iffy. You may like him, you may hate him. You can't go wrong with the Seeker mold or Bumblebee mold. I haven't thought about or picked up soundwave yet. Bulkhead is figgity, don't know how to explain it better. And his alt mode is as bad as any in the line along with Prime. I like Grimlock, but I like the paint on the original one better.

My kids have most of them and they've made me wish I had been collecting them too (at this point I don't need to get started because I'll end up on ebay dropping big bucks on dirge and cliff-anything this new, if I do it, I'm going to want to complete it). The bumblebee is great, grimlock too. Megs is kind of fiddly and I'm not a big fan of the prime mold. The seeker mold is really cool.

I have Optimus and Grimlock on my desk and think they're great.
