Here's a mod project I just started work on tonight: A "full" trailer for Animated Voyager Optimus. I plan to build it out of styrene, have it plug into the hole where the gun does (there's enough room to make some gun storage in the trailer. It's actually in there in the pic.) I plan to trim the sides up to to meet up with the sides already formed by the axe, not make it a box like it is, and add a wheel to each side behind the back wheel on each side (for a total of 6). It'll be a slightly smushed firetruck, but it'll look like a firetruck. I plan to have the ladder sitting in a recessed groove so it doesn't come up as high off the top as it does now, and a little shorter so it doesn't hang so far over the back. I intend to put lots more detail on the final product. It's purely idea stage for now, I won't have the time to take on something this involved until the end of April after we move and get settled into the new house (Which will actually have a dedicated workshop area out in the shed!). Just starting to flesh out the idea in 3-D.
Actually, if I took the axe off, I could tab that in to where the axe usually goes. And seeing as how that pretty much WOULD be a simplish box, that could make a good project to cut my teeth on before attempting the firetruck trailer. Thanks, Kouri! Looks like we both win with that suggestion!
I'm considering it. I don't know what yet. I'm going to fiddle with the design and flesh out what I can in the free moments I have between now and being able to sit down and really work on it. I'd like to at least find a way to attach the gun inside the trailer so that you could pop the ladder up and have the gun face forward kinda like it did in Thrill of the Hunt. Other than that, I've briefly toyed with the idea of having it turn into some sort of weapons platform, but that seems so uncreative, since it's been done several times. Although now that I think about it, if I incorporated the axe/gun assembly as a turret, I might be able to have it convert into a remote tank drone of some sort, like a more powerful Roller. Actually, the more I think about it, the more I think that's exactly what I might end up doing, although that might wait until a updated version. Maybe a schedule of: -G1 trailer for practice -First revision Fire Truck add-on -Transforming fire truck add-on Dammit, this was supposed to be quick and easy!
Oh, you most certainly were. I've already figured out how to do it, and it'd be a lot easier than the firetruck mod, being pretty much a box on wheels. It's a great idea that you get to see the finished product of, and I've got a warm-up project to get used to working with styrene again.
Heh. No kidding. I just added a VERY rough sketch of what a potential roller could look like. Simple, I imagine the trailer basically flipping inside out, the rear panel flipping down and under and the treads flipping around and up to lock the sides in place, and the ladder breaking in half and attaching to the back. Having it be the trailer flipped inside out would allow me to keep him mostly Blue/Grey/Black, like the original.
This looks very promising Peaugh!....I didnt know you were into bashing too!! Eagerly awaiting the finished result.
Here's a thought for Roller, to fit it into the Animated universe. Do Roller as a drone piloted by Sari, who's molded as inserting her key.
I've always been into little fixes and mods to improve figures. There's hardly a figure in the house that hasn't undergone some minor mod process. I used to do some pretty intensive mods to Marvel figures back in the day. I turned one of the the X-men light up Gambits into AOA Gambit, and an Iron Man figure into a pretty sweet Citizen V. I only wish I hadn't thought this one up when I can't really do any work on it other than designs for a month. Although that will likely end up helping the final project.
It will be absolutely amazing when you do this. If i were you i'd send in pics or something to fansproject or hasbro. If not, make multiple copies and make a killing off of us fans
Ooh, zombie thread. But entirely justified, in my opinion. Did anything ever happen with this, Peaugh?
