It's an interesting idea, and at a sub $100 price-point, I'm curious to see what the system and games turn out like. OUYA: A New Kind of Video Game Console by OUYA — Kickstarter
I guess, but many aren't developing for Android as it is, or doing so minimally. It's great in theory, but in the end I can only see this being a shovelware platform for popular mobile stuff (like Angry Birds). Would love to be proven wrong, but I don't have my hopes up.
It's going to retail for $99 and is fully modable out of the box. That alone is a pretty great deal considering its more than powerful enough to act as a multimedia server and emulation station. If it gets good stuff on it as well as that then great. Plus indies will flock to it as it has no cost of entry other than the machine itself. It might even go so far as to actually give the Android space a great kick in the arse.
I'd buy this at retail for sure, but pre-buying it is too much of a gamble. I already have enough junk that does multimedia/emulation that I barely use now.
I'm actually really tempted by this, if only for the ability to play emulators easier. Hooking up a colecovision with antenna outputs (you had to wire this one into a standard coaxial cable connector) on an hdtv is a mess, but this thing might be great for that. I'm not a huge fan of android as an os (I prefer ios for mobile devices, so shoot me), and I can do most of this stuff already on my tf-prime, but to have a system designed specifically for gaming would be great I think.
