Good thing I already hate almost anything by Hanna-Barbara already. Or else I'd be really pissed at hearing this news...

How do you make a movie about a bear that steals your picnic basket? Obviously, the bear has some problems, maybe he goes to rehab, and breaks out, only to steal more of your picnic baskets.

I can think that the cookie monster scene in Family Guy might be a good starting point.

If this and/or Droopy ever get anything other than a ful length feature, I'm swearing off ever going to see movies at the theater again. Unless it's for TF:ROTF.

Not quite. You've crossed the Harvey Birdman ep Death By Chocolate with Boo-boo on trial as a terrorist, and one of Cartoon Network's "Shorties" titled When Bears Nap:

YouTube - Cartoon Network Shorties - Yogi Bear - When Bears Nap

You'd think studios would learn from the dismal failures of such box office bombs as "The Country Bears" and "Looney Tunes: Back In Action."

I never really cared much for the original Yogi cartoons -- they were so formulaic, so predictable. And if it weren't for Daws Butler's great voice talents, I wouldn't have watched them at all.

I don't want to prejudge this, but it's really hard not to when it seems already doomed for epic failure.

Meanwhile, nobody in Hollywood is probably even thinking that Space Ghost or The Herculoids or Thundarr or any other H-B cartoon that would actually be WORTH making into a two-hour live-action/CGI film might actually make a good movie...:mad

Actually, you're wrong. There WAS an episode where Boo-boo went feral. I think it was animated by the guys that did Ren & Stimpy. Art style was very similar.

In the episode, Boo Boo and Yogi woke up and went outside, but in their half-awake state forgot to put on their clothes. The park ranger chastised them, especially Boo Boo whom he expected better of. Boo Boo got sick of all the rules and decided to act like a real bear. Rest of the ep was basically the ranger and Yogi trying to get Boo Boo back to normal.

edit: Actually, cambaprecoz posted a clip from that episode.

I don't hate the idea, nor am I endorsing it. Yogi is probably mostly unknown to most kids, unless they have Boomerang. And the wasn't all that great to beging with, its just a characterization of Ed from the Honeymooners.

Basicallly its a quick way to make a buck. Parents, or more likely, grandparents are going to take their kids and grandchildren to see this because it is what they watched while growing up. Same with Alvin and the Chipmunks.

I was more upset at Rocky and Bullwinkle because that was such an intelligent show and when it came out in the theaters it was watered down for kids.

I stand corrected. I remember that Spumco short now ("Boo Boo Runs Wild"), and I remember that I didn't like it for the unnecessary gay overtones and the stupid-ass butt-slapping ending.

It also took John K. (Ren & Stimpy creator) something like 10 years to complete the cartoon short. I usually like the Spumco stuff (except for the new R&S eps created for SpikeTV), and I had high hopes for that short film, but it proved over-hyped and disappointing (mainly for the stupid ending).

Spumco also produced another Yogi spoof, "A Day In The Life of Ranger Smith" which I thought was a lot funnier.
