Announced today at Blizzard Worldwide International. The highly anticipated sequel to one of the greatest PC RPGs of all time..... I believe this image alone (taken from Blizzard's homepage) says all that need be. However, I would like to take a moment to just describe how much this really means to me. Now, growing up, I was quite into gaming..due in no small part to my uncle, who's an avid PC gamer/tech guy. Now, he introduced me to Diablo shortly after it came out. And I just fell in love with it. It was a very dark, mature title (keeping in mind I was quite young at this time, so it made even more of an impression on me). The music, to this day even, just was amazing, beautiful yet haunting, and I hold the Tristram theme near and dear to my heart as one of my favorite instrumental pieces ever. Diablo featured very solid, classic point and click, hack and slash, dungeon crawler gameplay, with well implemented RPG elements. The single ever descending dungeon style of the first Diablo, I found, and still find, to be one of the best approaches to the genre ever. All this in mind, the original Diablo holds a place near and dear to me (yes I know it has not ever really been mentioned on my top 5, but I hold it to a different kind of level than those games...sans SotC of course), and I feel it to be superior even to its successor, Diablo II (as well as the expansion, Lord of Destruction). Now let us fast forward a bit to the announcement and subsequent launch of Diablo II. Again, seeing the first preview images of the sequel to Diablo...I was amazed. The game looked incredible, a much larger world to explore, new classes to try, new items and weapons, new game mechanics, spells, abilities, everything was new and improved. I picked up the second Diablo none too long after its release, and played it damn near nonstop, both offline and on Battle.net. Lord of Destruction is released, and of course I pick it up and get even more things to mess around with. So that brings us to now, sort of. Rumors abound on a possible sequel to Diablo II. Seeing as Star Craft II seemed an unlikely scenario (much like the third Diablo), it having been announced at last year's Worldwide International gave all the more hope...which has payed off with the announcement of the one game I truly cannot wait for. I have said time and time again that if any game can take the crown of the greatest game ever, it would be Spore...sorry to say but, I may still be hyped for Spore, but when it comes down to it, Diablo III is now and always my current potential game of the all time.
