Heheheh.... They've advertised July 4th for this long, it would be kinda silly to drop the release date by a day. I'd love to see it a day earlier but I can wait. It's no big deal either way for me. At least Michael Bay is recognizing the fan base and giving them the opportunity to speak out. (and he's actually listening kind of)
The man has some good film making, a little tough on the crew, but it makes up for it in the long run.
It's interesting this slant eh? I'm much more cynical. Anyhoo, I don't understand. Who gets July 3rd off?
This is what they SHOULD do: At 10 pm play the original animated movie in theaters. After it concludes, roll right into the live action flick. The animated film will serve to pump up the audience. My buddy went to see all three LOTR in theaters in ONE day. They started around 3 in the afternoon and played the first two then at midnight played "Return of the King" because it was officially the release date at 12 am. I'd rather they not realease it on the 3rd. Release it at midnight on 7.4.7. I'll prob go right from work on the 3rd to camp out at the theater becaue I am that friggin' pumped.
my god. that would rock waaaaaaaaaaay too much. who else is hoping one or two lines are rehashed from the original movie to this one?? "Megatron must be stopped, no matter the cost." I would kill to have Prime say that.
I would only want the 3rd, if it's a late-night (9pm+) showing (other than the "midnight madness" one that will certainly occur). And I dont' know WHO has the 3rd off, for a Wed July 4th, peep left early day before, maybe came in late day after - but most ppl who weren't travelling far, were in at least part of the day, and companies only gave the 4th off.
Don't take this the wrong way; I'm not dissing the animated movie here, but that would give a general audience completely the wrong idea about the live action movie they were about to see. For Botcon sure, but not for mainstream consumption.
I think they should stick with the Fourth, it makes it more of an event if it's released on Independence Day. Plus, as it's been said, the advertising has all been "On July 4th" and "7.4.7" so they really shouldn't change the date. A couple of hours won't make much of a difference after waiting over a year to see this. Plus, my username would be meaningless... : P Either way, it's going to own the box office summer movie-wise no matter what day it's released.
I definitely want it out on the 3rd. If it comes out on the 4th, I won't be able to see it until the 5th. There's just too much family stuff going on, on the 4th of July. I would think other people are experiencing this too. My vote is for the 3rd. I think it would boost opening day sales!
Mainstream consumption? Have you ever been to a midnight opening? That's not much of a mainstream audience most of the time. And I'd imagine for Transformers it would be every bit as wacky an audience as it was for the last Star Wars film. Believe me, it won't be mainstream America going in for the midnight showings of this movie. It'll be the hardcore that already have an opinion on the animated flick and wouldn't let that opinion influence how they feel about the new one. Though it would be a nice nod to those of us who're crazy enough to camp out for a few hours to get into that first showing. Regardless, I doubt that's a possibility anyway. I'll be there. Whatever day it opens. First showing. One way or another. I'm going to be refreshing Fandango until tickets go on sale for that first showing and snapping them up the second I see them. It doesn't matter whether it's the third or the fourth. Midnight, three am, noon, whatever. I got that whole week off, and no other plans for it. My previous plans fell through so I'm all set.
For everybody saying that it has to open on 7/4/7 because that's when you have off, I'm going to be insensitive here and say this isn't something you should be trying to shoot down. You are entitled to your feelings, even if it is just a 'But I want to see it ASAP' thing, but I realized there were more pressing concerns regarding when the film opens last night. Last night I saw a commercial for the new Harry Potter movie on TV and it's set for one week after the TF movie opens. Harry Potter will suck the cash away from every other movie at the box office when it comes out. Check the records if you don't think so. Because of that, I wholeheartedly endorse the movie opening earlier, regardless of what my opinion of the movie will be like. Getting in some more showings before HP opens means TF gets a better chance of coming out as a viable franchise, instead of an 80's revival flop.
KEEP IT 07/04/07 PLEASE!!! Fourth of July sounds much better than third of July, which sounds a little like turd of July. Mr. Bay, I do salute you! But I would like to see it earlier... hmm... I need my calander.
I'll see it at BotCon, so I guess I want it to open whenever it'll get the biggest opening weekend box-office gross. I thought that would mean earlier=better, but if it hasn't worked out like that in the past, it should stay on 7-4-7.
I'm planing to see it on the 4th, even if it comes out earlier. The 4th is the best day for me. But if they bring it out earlier on the 3rd good for them.
I really don't care when the movie opens, mainly b/c I know fan opinions don't really mean jack to Bay and the studio.
Not a whole hell of a lot. You try and take the days between the 4th and the nearest weekend off. I'd wager with the 4th falling smack in the middle of the week, most people (who have the option for add'l days off) are taking Thu.-Fri. over Mon.-Tue. OTOH, a significant chunk of the target audience for this doesn't have school or work.
I know. I was just trying to be subtle about saying his reason for releasing a day early was crap and that That being said, I think they should release it a day early so it helps the box office. The studio is being self serving...but that's what they are supposed to be in terms of running a business and making money.
