Speaking of Superman Returns (and lets hope TFs is a much better movie than that), it was originally scheduled to open June 30th. It wasn't until about 3 weeks beforehand that the date got moved to June 28th. Because all of the advertising and such had 'June 30th,' it didn't open as well as it could have on the 28th, and the 29th was dull. I'm all for a midnight preview, and maybe even a 9PM show, but I'd rather not open the full schedule on the 3rd.

I always thought that made sense in a way, though--the events of the movie took place on July 2, 3, and 4.

Anything that rakes in a few extra sacks of dosh for the movie has my vote, even if it won't effect me at all.

Oh no! I already requested 7/4/07 off from work! I dunno if they'll let me shift my day off to the 3rd instead.

I would think July 4th would be better for the American fans because it's a holiday and you're almost guaranteed to have the day of work, or at least close up early if you're in retail.

I know that in Canada our stores and business either close early or don't open at all on July 1st, of course the US might be different.

And it's really a mute point if you happen to work in a movie theater, huh?

The studio will probably never do this. However, Michael Bay, your sentiment is duly noted and will go down as a mark in your "Michael Bay is NOT a total tool" column.

I'd be willing to wait until Christmas if they took that time and put Prime's faceplate & Jazz's visor on all the time.

Why can't Bay push for the film to be released earlier in the UK.

Because the U.S. is a much much larger market. And all the studio cares about is breaking box office records.

If they care about profit they should release the film earlier in the UK otherwise people will tempted to download the film or buy a pirate copy.

The 4th would get more revenue, so studios would stick to that.

Michael Bay should transform into a camera as a chameo in the sequel.

Again, the UK is a drop in the bucket when it comes to box office sales. Nice to have, but not typically a market that would make or break the success of a movie.

I would also be willing to go out on a limb and say that the majority of people who pirate will probably do it regardless of whether or not a movie is released one day early or late.
