Brillaint artist and a great man and teacher.

There was no shortage of talent in the Kubert family, but the world of comic illustration will never be the same.

    Joseph Kubert (September 18, 1926 – August 12, 2012)
An American comic book artist and writer who founded The prestigious Kubert School.

Best known for: DC Comics Sgt. Rock, Hawkman. His sons (Andy Kubert and Adam Kubert both HUGE comic talents), Tor, Viking Prince, comic strip Tales of the Green Beret (with writer Robin Moore), Fax from Sarajevo, Ghost Rider/Blaze Spirits of vengeance ( my fav),

    SOME Kubert created Characters:
    Bulldozer
    Byth
    Enemy Ace
    Gentleman Ghost
    Hawkman
    Hawkwoman
    Iris West
    Matter Master
    Monocle
    Neptune Perkins
    Ragman
    Sgt. Rock
    Shadow Thief
    Shayara Hol (Hawkwoman)
    Thanagarians
    Tor
    Unknown Soldier
    Wayne WIlliams (Batman)

Kubert was inducted into the Harvey Awards' Jack Kirby Hall of Fame in 1997, and Will Eisner Comic Book Hall of Fame in 1998.

thats about half of the man.

I'm not sure what we should celebrate him more for, all the great stories he brought to life through his art, or all the great artists he helped train to do the same.

Oh wow, really sad to hear. RIP Joe

First saw his work on my dad's old Hawkman and Sgt Rock comics. A legend, he will be missed.

also, just a clarification, he was the creator of the silver age incarnation of Hawkman, Katar Hol, but not the first.

Aw, that sucks. Joe Kuberts art holds up incredibly well today (and lets face it, most don't), and his School guarantees his legacy.

    RIP.

I don't think there was a comic book geek that I know that DIDN'T want to go to the Joe Kubert school one day. It's like Harvard for fanboys.

Joe Kubert was of those gold standard artists. Everything he worked on dripped with attention to detail and he made it look effortless.

I had the honor of meeting and having a good 20min conversation with Mr. Kubert earlier this year. He did a panel at Comicpalooza here in Houston. He was so humble when it came to his artwork. I remember his youthfulness and humility in his voice. He was truly one of a kind.

Rest well Joe, you earned it.
