    WTF?!?!

Damn, that is BAD casting. I don't see how he could do it, when Tony Stark is more of Burt Reynolds kind of guy...

Not the first person to jump to mined but Downey is a fine actor and I have faith he will do a good job.

yes he is but his track record as the lead with the movie doing well has only been in romantic roles. he was great in that tommy le jones movie and NBK but in a supporting role.

    with the exception of chaplin.

omg maybe he got the role because of the chaplin stache.

I can't really comment on him as an actor (can't recall anything I've actually seen him in), but I just remember the fact that he was on Ally McBeal for a season and all I can think is...

True, but come to mind Downey Jr.'s alcoholism could coincide with some of the problems Tony Stark "had." Stark was never quite a clean cut guy, and always had issues...

Honestly, even though I'm a comic book character fan I hope they design the Iron Man suit so it looks good. Most of the Iron Man action scenes will be CGI, but they'll be producing a suit for some of the up close shots.

I think whoever plays Tony Stark should really be a relative unknown or someone that doesn't really seem like Stark. But, Downey Jr. really doesn't seem like the character.

Works for me. Robert Downey Jr. is a talented actor and he knows how to deal with an addiction to harmful substances, which was one of Tony Stark's big issues.

My vote would've been Tom Skerritt.

:lol  Hey Michael Keaton made Batman work, so I'll give Downey a chance. He'll need to spend some serious time at the gym though...

I can't say I've seen Robert Downey Jr in enough stuff to comment. But now I have to go back and see.

He definately has to grow a gotee though.

My choice is still Carlos Bernard for a good and inexpensive actor.

After checking out his picture on IMDB and refreshing my mind about what he looks like... I'd go so far as to say this is potentially a good choice.

Like any comic movie, I want it to do good so that more will be made and eventually the ones I really care about (I'm looking at you, Green Lantern) will get made. So here's to hoping RDJ can pull it off.

I can see it. Bit I wonder how much of the $100 million dollar budget is going into RDJ's paycheck

Not who I would have chosen, but I have to say...

    Brilliant Choice!

If anyone has actually watched a good number of his films the guy CAN act, and in some ways has lived Stark's life. He's not a dead ringer for the drawings in the comics, but neither was Chris Reeve, Michael Keaton, Hugh Jackman, etc. The main thing is that he should be able to play the ROLE well, both Stark's boozy-tragic side as well as his lighter, charming flirty side (which really are what he presents most of the time, at least in the classic comics).

    One more thing...

This casting definately puts my wife's ass in theater.

    Disappointing...

I would have preferred the quiet yet combustible Timothy Olyphant from Deadwood.

I'm taking this with a grain of salt.

    I personally hate AICN.

Assuming it is real, I think its a good choice.

and while I'm hating stuff, I'll say that I hate wikipedia too

I'm withholding judgement. I'll have a better statement by the trailer.

For now? I'm surprised by the choice, as he's not someone I would've chosen...but, I was also disappointed that Routh was chosen to play Superman, so I'm not the best judge of how an actor can portray a character. :)
