For those who don't know, An Idiot Abroad is a Discovery channel special that follows Karl Pilkington who has been sent to see the wonders of the world by his friend Ricky Gervais. What follows is one of the funniest shows I've seen in ages. Karl is just such a... unique man with unique views. It just ended with episode eight. (there being only seven wonders) Anybody else follow this special? I have to say the last episode recapping his adventures made me feel oddly nostalgic.
Karl Pilkington is a British National Treasure and should be in a museum. I can't get enough of his brain.
Karl Pilkington will save us all one day. He predicted that we won't wear pants in the future, y'know.
I saw it when Sky ran it over here last year. Out of twat Gervais, nob Merchant and round-headed Karl, I reckon Pilkinton is the actually the wisest of the three. I'm sure many of us have the same thoughts about such things as he when going to other countries or meeting new people but Karl is one of those people that doesn't mind saying what he feels regardless of how dumb people may think of him. He's also pretty genius in animated 'The Ricky Gervais Show', but then you also have to endure more twattishness from unfunny Gervais and Merchant.
I disagree entirely. Part of the fun of Pilkington is the effect he has on Gervais and Merchant - their amusement and bemusement is infectious. The 'pilot episode' of 'Idiot' that Sky TV ran with Pilkington, Gervais and Merchant introducing and discussing clips of the series was far funnier than the several hours of the man on his own, entertaining though that was. I did begin to weary of his constant whinging by the end of it though. Frequently it wasn't even close to amusing and came off as curmudgeonly.
Another old thread revived since the show is back. Anyone been following the second series? We're about halfway through it here in Blighty. It's been a much less cruel series this time around (which may actually make it less fun to watch for some) and Karl seems to have realised he can say no if he really doesn't want to do something Gervais and Merchant have set up for him. He's learning to play the game. 'Jump from that high tower? Does jumping from the bottom count? I'll jump from the bottom then'. Shockingly Karl seems to have even enjoyed some of his tasks. I certainly never expected Karl to get dressed up in drag and make-up and not throw an epic fit over it Felt really sorry for him by the end of the whale watching episode though.
Yeah, i've been watching it. I don't find it as funny as the last series, probably because Karl doesn't seem to complain as much, but it's still enjoyable. I enjoyed his trip to the volcano and the "arse-boarding" that he did. I don't really see the point in having Merchant in it though, it's mainly Gervais(ugh) who seems to do the talking and phone calls, which is a shame, because I absolutely love Merchant.
