I've seen one of these before on ebay, maybe a year ago?

That one claimed it was a testpiece for a potential US release. I can't remember if it was legit, or just a box swap. Search and google don't throw up anything; anyone?

    I own one of these.

It's funny that everyone is calling it USA Sunstorm, as if this is the first one that's ever appeared.

I have counted at least 4 or 5 Sunstorms in a European Hasbro commemorative box. You can tell it's european due to the multiple languages where it would usually say COMMEMORATIVE SERIES II.

Anyway, I recently was thinking about AFA'ing this piece but then realize that it in fact DOES seem to be double-taped on one side. This is a bit sad, as it makes it harder to prove that this came from the factory. The fact that so may of this all ready VERY EXPENSIVE AND HARD TO FIND figure came in the same box, and an odd one at that, makes me believe it is a factory sample.

I guess it's always possible that Sunstorm was meant to have a European release, and maybe Paul Hitchens could clear that up, but my gut reaction would be "repackage". Hasbro USA has stated they had no intentions to ever release a Sunstorm figure here (using G1 Starscream that is) because they don't want to take away from TakaraTomy and eHobby's agreements, etc.

I got one of these a few years ago and opened it. The missiles are the same as the eHobby release, so they were not changed for the US market (ie, elongated missiles). So there is really nothing special about them other than the way it was packaged (which anyone can duplicate since they are doubletaped)

Ok so this Sunstorm is a geniune item, that's good to know! I was only aware of the E-Hobby release, glad I asked here :)

So this is an unrealesed europeen Sunstorm if I understand? Is it rarer/pricier than the E-Hobby one?

These were for sale in Ebay stores for $200.00 about 1-2 years ago.

I always thought it was an interesting piece, but there has not been any concrete confirmation one way or another if it is a legit sample, or repackage.

The Ehobby displays better in my opinion.

    I'd call fake on it

Mainly because e-hobby have exclusive rights on the toys they have produced and they wouldn't allow a "euro" release of an exclusive they have paid for

Thank about it, if you were Mr Ehobby, would you allow it?
Its like getting a european release of a Botcon toy, not going to happen

Plus we have the same rules here with regards to the missiles, I don;t see huge orange missiles under it

PLUS if it's got as far as packaging, then it's reached production, we would see loads of them
