Amazon is probably listing it for a 3rd party.

    Ebay:
If it's Amazon Marketplace, it's a third party. It's like Ebay, except with Buy It Now only. It's a haven for scalpers. Around Christmas of last year, I saw people selling Wii's there for anywhere between $800 to $1500.

I seriously doubt that's your only place to get it. Hell, the upcoming Takara release is cheaper, and (supposedly) will have different (better?) colors.

And as pointed out, outrage at Amazon is probably misplaced.

I'd say wait for the anime-accurate Takara version that's coming out, but if you can't wait or like the purple and green better, try posing in the Wanted Ads forum, there's plenty of people, me included, that can not only still find Classics Megs in a few stores, but on clearance no less. Maybe someone will be willing to grab one for you.

Takara has solicitations out for the Classics toyline with "anime accurate" paintjobs. No pictures yet but so far they've announced plans to release the main figures up to Mirage so far, no word if exclusives like Magnus/Skywarp or the Botcon exclusives will make it to release this way. But all are being branded as more accurate paintjobs.

And if you want the original Classic Megatron, I'll likely be selling mine after getting the Takara version.

Umm...why not? It'll be identical, possibly with better color applications, and possibly available at a more reasonable price than a Hasbro Megatron.
