Here is a pictorial review of Takaras Arms Micron 06 Skywarp! Yup another repaint of Starscream, big whoop. Well actually, it is as there is this new added gimmick of the microns and a new paint scheme that is very well done. Sure it still looks kind of like Starscream but the colors are just perfect for this mold and to me passes very well for a Skywarp. Very close to the classics target exclusive Skywarp. The boxes I was kind of like eh how boring, but after getting them I like them alot. Large clear animation images and the whole not showing the figure reminds me of some of the Micron legends and Superlink boxes. Skywarp still retains the same molding and transformation as the FE Starscream except it does not have the missiles yet 2 bombs glued or attached to the wings each having 3 micron ports. They could be removed if you wanted to but might risk ruining the wings and plus I think they look cool and help separate him from Starscream. Skywarp also comes with his micron which is a drill, star and a bull like creature. As with all the figures in this line you need to assemble and sticker the micron and figure. It may look like a lot but there really is not that many for both the figures and you really could choose not to sticker them, but they definitely add the highlights to the figures. He also comes with 2 extra CON stickers which I placed on the wings. Now the possibilities are endless in how you want to utilize the micron, except in vehicle mode. Due to its size it really is hard to find a way in which it will work. You can kind of do it like shown in the picture but the weight of it will tip it. Unless you are pretending to fly him around and have battles lol then the micron underneath would make more sense. Skywarps micron is a bull, shield, ninja star, drill. Pretty easy to change between modes. The grey is a little lighter than promo and box images make it out to be but it is not that bad as it borders more with the grey versus going towards that odd grey brown color. In robot mode you can place it pretty much anywhere on Skywarp as again you have 3 ports on the bombs, so 6, plus the arms, for a total of 8 ports. So you can either have it as a shield with the points out or as a drill. You can also turn the turbine around and up on the back and attach the micron as well as shown in the picture. Skywarps micron is also shown to combine with Megatrons to create a mini driller like in the show. You just plug into the end of Megatrons canon and can choose to use it as a short canon or a long canon and can be used on the voyager Megatron as well. So overall I am glad we did not get another Starscream for this mold and size, and at least another seeker. The whole micron play value I think is pretty sweet and I was quite surprised by them. Though the stickers don't seem to matter that much but they work really well for Skywarp as they are not trying to cover up over too many raised details so they are worth the effort in applying them. Vehicle mode with no stickers: Robot mode with no stickers: Vehicle mode with stickers: Robot mode with stickers: With micron: Combined with Megatrons micron:
One of the few Arms Micron figures I'm considering getting. He looks nice enough without the stickers.
Got mine last night and almost completely agree with Deceptigar's assessment. I'm just not a fan of the new boxes. The artwork is really nice, but I still prefer to see the actual figure. That lack of a figure display did, however, make the decision to open it a no-brainer... and I definitely appreciate that, as he really is awesome.
Wait his bombs are glued to his wings? Well that's lame. Otherwise he's a nice looking figure without his stickers.
Hasbro can barely get out the shit they do have......so don't hold your breathe. As for Skywarp. It really looks nice. It really really does. But I just can get past the fact that this is Starscream wearing Skywarp's colors. The Prime designs really carry over their individual personalities to their physical appearance more than any other previous incarnation before. So I personally cannot look at this mold/design other than being Starscream. But I digress, the mold does look good in those colors. Starscream: Skywarp Mode.
Looks good. Good enough without the stickers, so I'll probably leave mine off when it arrives. I somewhat agree... I think using the mold for Skywarp (and Thundercracker, etc.) is fine, but a new headsculpt would have gone a long way here. That smirk is just too Prime Starscream. I'd love to see a third party head, maybe with some kind of grimace. Skywarp was always kind of a dumb brute, right?
This figure looks so nice. I'm so tempted to pick him up, but I shouldn't. I'm poor enough as it is. Same. Looks like he's either screaming like a fan girl or laughing his ass off.
