They are born from the Well of All Sparks, the fountain of energy from Primus himself. There, the spark is born and a body is formed for it.

Sometimes, a spark splits in half, resulting in two identical bodies, such as Dreadwing and Skyquake.

Depends on the continuity. In Animated they were made from protoforms or using different 'moulds', such as Wasp and Bumblebee.

I imagine that two TFs can merge their sparks to form a new spark, which will then be housed in a protoform and allowed to mature.

    ...No.

All due respect, I am sick and tired of this idea that has wormed its way into the Transformers fandom. There is no fictional precedent for it, and in this continuity family it is clearly established all Cybertronians are spawned from the Well of Allsparks. They are not a sexually reproducing species. To think otherwise is over-anthropomorphizing giant alien robots.

In G2, it was shown that the original transformers budded from Primus's body, aka: Cybertron. They then asexually reproduced by budding as well, making their descendants weaker than the parent. That ability naturally shut itself off when Cybertron was populated enough, and the knowledge of it was completely erased. After that, new Cybertronians had to be built and brought to life with the matrix.

That's just the Marvel comic explaination, however.

Blackarachnia and Silverbolt anyone? That was probably the only true genuine romance that ever happened in Transformers.

He said continuity family, which includes the books and games. He didn't say Prime specifically.
