He has a decpticon logo on his crotch...huh.

I still think it looks as though the car grill is grinning at you though. Still, his robot mode looks very nifty, may get it come TFCon.

Colors seam off for Starscream. Needs some gray instead of white.

Bot otherwise, THAT'S HOT DOG! HOT!

    Do you have any Alternity?

I don't recollect any Deluxe ROTF figures having opening hoods, doors, trunks, detailed engines, and detailed interiors. The only way they'd have any one of those is if they needed to have opening doors or such for transformation purposes.

I actualy can see why the car would not appeal to some. It's most likely the organic detailing. especially the vents in the hood. You can tell the car designers were going for somekind of blend of car and animal. That's a pretty out there concept for a car design.

For me, I actually don't see why all the hate for the robot mode. :lol  I mean sure, I can get the whole "OMG 4 eyes!" thing, but really, I don't see anything particularly wrong with the robot design overall.

Huh, I really liked this guy from the early promo photos but for some reason when I look at him now he doesn't look like something I would want in my collection. Probably a nice toy, but I guess the aesthetics don't do it for me.

That face/head is really not good. (I had some concerns from early images)

I hope we get the skywarp photos soon.

I've got both on preorder, but have known for quite sometime that this doesn't appear to be alternity's finest hour (which is a shame, because it's a nice body). I'm pretty sure I'll be canceling which ever of the two ends up having the uglier face (skywarp's doesn't look exactly promising either).

    Time will tell.

    Ah, thank you!

That's the stuff. Car mode looks even better in that rich, dark purple. But then, most things do.

I really like this figure and am glad I ordered one. I like Skywarps face mold better in this line, but favor Starscream as a character. The car design gives off an alien, bug vibe which suits Starscreams design in my opinion. Even though I don't like the high price of this line, I'm a sucker for the level of detail, accuracy, rubber-metal-plastic materials, and sheer creative engineering genius that goes into making these cool, real-life sports cars transform into some of my favorite characters -especially at this desktop friendly scale! It has "collect me" written all over it.

Even though each model has certain design elements that I would like to have seen done a little different, I still appreciate them for what they are... an alternative -or should I say, Alternity!

PS... I love the simple repaint pre-viz that Cheebs posted -especially in regards to the eyes, I think that's what I'll do to mine :thumbs2:

Because they're the same size as a Deluxe. No other reason.

Makes sense. The car's name is "Orochi" which is Japanese for "serpent".

I agree. I don't understand all the hate the robot mode is getting either. Personally I think it looks rather cool.

Detail can be found in different places, depending on priorities... realistic car functionality and interiors being one of the vested priorities of the Alternity line. But it's still just a Deluxe with seats and a bit of metal to me. And the seats and engine detail aren't worth $50 to me.

And the sad truth is that Energon Hotshot has the opening hood, doors and engine detail... not that I'd propose a return to THAT level of engineering. :D

Are they over priced? Maybe. But then most of my japanese transformers are over priced. I don't buy the more expensive ones because they're more expensive- i buy them because they're nicer.

I agree that Hasbro has been doing a bit better with realism on the movie lines. But these are still nicer in many respects. Here's a list of the many things I'm paying extra for that I simply WON'T find on Hasbro product (even when they're occasionally not cutting corners).

    1. Are these engineered better? Probably- but this could be argued either way.

    2. Opening doors, hood with engine, trunk.

    3. Reflective rearview mirror inserts.

    4. Real multi piece headlights and tail lights vs. the painted one piece molded plastic found on hasbro movie toys.

    5. Rubber tires.

    6. Realistic car body paint (except for some of the premiums, Hasbro almost NEVER paints the car bodies).

    7. Generally all details that should be painted are painted (find me a Hasbro transformer that wouldn't benefit from more paint detail- it NEVER happens)

    8. Although they aren't perfect, there is a very noticeable effort to add only a few car body seams that shouldn't be on the car. Hasbro never does this.

    9. Even though the realism of the cars in the movie lines is good, these are still more accurate.

    10. Die-cast metal (although I'm actually not that impressed in the ways it's been utilized in this line- but it's still something more they have going for them).

    11. Disc brakes (I know a couple movie figures have had this- but it's the exception)

    12. Better, more detailed figure sculpts (I'm sure we could argue this one- but only with the best of the movie sculpts)

    13. Different type of plastic that feels/looks less like a toy.

This is why the alternity line are not just overpriced deluxes. If you don't own one it's hard to compare, and if you don't own one you're missing out.
