Here's my lastest commision for my full-time buyer, Alt Sludge, the SRT-10. The initial idea for this came about a few years ago when the Alt Prime mode with the shoulder pads flipped down and the grill becoming the chest first surfaced. Fast forward a few years as I worked my way down the commision list until I finallly got to him.

One thing I insisted on was having the new chest mode work with no removal of parts. I did this by adding a new set of hinges for the hood to fold back on, and using the original waist panel swing bar for the chest piece. The bumper/grill assembly rotates 180 degrees with the help of polycap joint, and then folds into position. Unfortunately these mods mean the engine gun can no longer fit in truck mode, but this is not a problem for the buyer. The Autobot symbol on the bumper is a seperate peice that actually rotates 180 degrees for each mode.

Sludge's giant battle axe and sword are entirely scratchbuilt from styrene, except for the mace part of the axe and power cable on the sword, which were donated from extra Gundam bits. The bed cover is also styrene, as are the extra details on the arms and legs.
Sludge's head is a Sunstreaker head with extensive styrene additions, including a new, bigger chin.

The buyer also decided that Sludge had to have a red chest, but silver/grey body in robot mode. After bouncing a few ideas back and forth, we finally settled on a red bumper/grill with flames trailing back onto the silver truck. Now, I'd never attempted painting flames before, and took my time very carefully etching out the masking tape stencil and applying it. I must say however, that I was very please with the results as soon as I peeled back the tape. Anyway, the silver is a custom mix with a bit of black in Tamiya Silver. The bumper and flames are Tamiya Clear Red sprayed right over the silver, giving them a gorgeous deep metallic look. The underside of the chest is Guard's Red, and the black is plain black. The details in the arms and legs were done with Clear Blue and Clear Orange.

This is flippin' too cool Jarrod!!

I love all the tweaks you did to the transformation....very cool.

Also, I like what you did for the bed cover too....like you said, no "left-over" parts.

    Great job man :thumb

Allen and I were talking about this very idea not too many weeks ago. It looks every bit as good as I thought it might. The only difference was the bumper/grill piece would've had racing stripes on them instead of flames. I love it :)

You do really great work man. I don't really like the overall aesthetic of this one but I can appreciate the attention to detail and superb work you've done here

    Negatives for me are
-Not enough gold just makes the toes seem out of place
-The head's not doing it for me, just doesn't say Sludge
-Flames don't seem to fit Sludge
-The autobot symbol looks very out of place

    Positives for me are
    -Fantastic sword, really top notch
    -Transformation tweeks are really great
-Covered truck bed is awesome and it give the legs a more full look
    -Great paintwork

Overall, if the buyer is happy that's all that matters.

Eh...fair enough. The buyer's ecstatic about it, and I personally think the head looks ton's like Sludge...at least the toy version which I based it on.

very nice. Makes me wonder what a snarl could look like...and how it would be different from sludge.

After checking it out a bit more I do see the resemblence in the head, I guess the area under the eyes is what's throwing me off. I also hope I didn't come off sounding like I didn't like this custom. It's really great work. I guess since Sludge is my favorite dinobot I'm a bit more picky

Very Slick. Great work, I love the touches that make him Sludge and not just a repaint. Awsome job!
