My joy of finding Alternators Optimus Prime was quickly replaced by dissapointment when I noticed how many QC issues this toy had.

From floppy articulations to misaligned hood, there was barely anything fine with this figure. At first I thought I had a factory lemon, but several reports indicate that it's common to get a floppy Prime.

I dissasembled the whole thing to tighten the aticulations with epoxy, but the hood remained a problem, so I dissasembled him once more.

If you look at the following pic, I noticed that one of the hood hinges was hindered by the frame it rested on, causing a 1 - 1.5 mm gap on one side, resulting in a too tight fit of the hood when it was closed, which caused the plastic to slightly bend and create an ugly gap (pic borrowed from Remy):

Back to that hood hinge, I decided to take my trusty exacto knife and shave of a small piece of the hinge so it would have more clearance when the hood is being closed. I shaved off very small pieces untill the hood closed properly:

The results are in: Alt Prime does not suck anymore!!!

Either way, I'm getting the Binaltech release, as well as the black redeco. If they still have the same problem, I'll fix 'em as well.

I may not be a master kitbasher like some of you guys, but I do enjoy fixing/tweaking my TFs :)

actually, this QC issue have been apparent with previous alt figures too.

my prowl had the same problem with the trunk.

even BTs actually have these problems too. my silverstreak's trunk also has a gap.

Check that the connecting rod isn't extended too far. For some reason it doesn't click in the correct position.

Wow. I should feel fortunate than none of my BTs have any problems. Well, besides the odd paint chip here and there. :sly:

Yeah. that connector rod underneath is not a great system. When properly clipped in, it sorta kinda works.
