What makes us buy a Transformer? Maybe it’s the developed character from a comic, cartoon, movie or game. Maybe it’s the design of the toy itself or the vehicle/item it is based upon. Maybe it’s the character, a fan favourite or talismanic member of a faction. Or maybe, just maybe, it’s the beautiful box art that can ultimately sell a Transformer to an uninitiated buyer. For the next two weeks we’ll be looking not only at the artwork used on a select group of toys from the Alternators line, but also at some of the original line-art and inks created by Hasbro’s talented pool of artists.

I like some of the artwork on Alternators, but I still prefer Binaltech boxart much more.

Binaltech didn't have box art, just toy photography. They had nice collector's card artwork but it was generally quite static.

Maybe you are thinking of Binaltech Asterisk or Kiss-Players packaging which had artwork?

I meant boxart as in the overall package, could have wrote that better  . The artwork of the characters was nice on Alternators, but I don't like the overall package as much.

Wow, this article really strikes a chord with me on many levels. Much of that is I became acquainted with Maz through our shared interest of Alternators/Binal Tech. It's really nice to see this artwork unobstructed. I can't wait for more :)

I wish the actual figures' robot modes looked like the art, lol.

Urm, they're pretty close. Are we looking at the same artwork and toys here?

I think one of the saddest things was that in Europe we didn't get Alternators box art, we just got stock photos as apparently there is stricter legislation here about toys being able to do exactly what it says on the tin. I'm sure I heard that regarding the situation here...
