It's been a productive week. I was finally able to wrap up a bunch of projects. Here's the next one I've finished recently: Alternators Ironhide.

Because y'all have seen the vehicle mode for this one, I didn't take any pictures, because I didn't change the vehicle mode at all. It's just the SRT Ram. However, since this mold appeared on the scene, all I thought was "Ironhide."

So here he is the way I wanted this toy to be - as Ironhide.

Note - all of the molded-blue parts were died black for this project. The head is another Shawn Bromen creation and it looks damn good, in my opinion. The shoulder modification is really easy, but it's late and I am recovering from a hangover so I'll post a graphic of the mod later on.

The last two shots show a better view of both the shoulder mod AND the effectiveness of dying those blue parts black. The unified color scheme looks a lot better, in my opinion.

    Looks great.

I've never dyed any plastic before, is it hard? easy? Stuff to look out for?

    The shoulder mod looks awesome!

I thought about modding my prime when the mod thread came up awhile back, but I hate having to leave the bumper parts just lying around :/
Is there any way to leave them on somehow?

Love the head..not sure I like the idea of him being a truck, but I guess that's the direction Micheal Bay is going so maybe I'm just too much of a fanboy to let go of G1 lol

    Awesome job!

Check out the exhaustive kitbasher's resource at the top of this forum for more on dying. Or, check out tfmaster.com for more on dying as well. Both places should have enough info to get you started.

If there is, I haven't thought it up yet. I was kinda figuring I'd have them attach to his bed or something like that in robot mode. I'm not entirely opposed to a little bit of "parts-former" action going on, because I like the fact that Ironhide's robot mode is a simpler without those bumpers in the way.

I'm going tobe making the front bumper halves into a shield type thing. So it'll reconnect in truck mode and attach to his arm in 'bot mode.

I like that mod, but I didn't think it fit Ironhide. I think it looks good for redoing Alt. Optimus so that he looks better, but I thought the long, sloped front (the SRT Ram's hood) was similar in appearance and aesthetic to the '84 Ironhide's Van canopy, so I left it the way the toy was sold.

    I'm also lazy.

I've been planning pretty much the exact same project...just need to scrape the funds together to send shawn for the head. How does the head attach on the mold's small post and ball joint? Easy? Or is there some tweaking to do?

It looks awesome by the way, really really good. I'm glad to know that what I was thinking about looks so good. I may pick your brain when the time comes, if you're cool with that.

Looking good! I don't want to sound silly, but seeing the heads in use on great bashes, gives me the warm 'n fuzzies. I am glad I have been able to provide a "little touch" to help complete some of the great projects out there.
I have finally been able to cast some more (besides the first 5 that were done), and since I am doing them myself I am able to get a faster turn around on them.
I should be posting here soon, with some of the new ones that are available. Did you get your commissioned one, Ops?

Regarding the bumpers in robot mode, I'd already done the same shoulder mod after having seen it at tfans and, having no objection to parts-formers, I just used some blu tac to stick the bumpers under the chest plate over the tyres.
Might not be to everyone's tastes, but it keeps them safe and gives this figure some upper body bulk (mine is still Optimus, not Ironhide).
