Hey guys, I've got to give some props to LiquiD and his own Alt Drifter bash. He's done some really nice work and I was inspired by his bash (as well as I'm inspired by everyone's work here).

While I had some of my other projects drying, I was chatting on MSN and had a spare Alt Ricochet just sort of asking for some treatment. LiquiD and I had been talking through PMs (about the headless Autoroooper I was trading for [to use for Alternators/BT/KP Outrun as well as other things), and I was looking at his bash and thought "why not?" This was a pretty big leap for me simply because a "Drifter" was not really on my "to-do" list (for those of you who don't know, ever since I've been making customs, I've had a "grocery list" of sorts of the customs I am making; I stick to it pretty strictly too).

Anyways, here is what I came up with. It's very similar to what LiquiD has made, while being drastically different as well. Notable differences are that I made mine completely black; removed the Ricochet spoiler and filled in the holes; changed the rims out for XMod rims that I painted red and black; used a Silverstreak gun with a silver Autobot symbol (to denote that he has some allegiance to the Autobots while mainly being a Decepticon [he is a drifter after all]); the custom arm (of which I took from a KO Energon Arcee); and a custom head (the same head I used for Outrun, but just treated dramatically differently).

Without further delay, I submit to you Alternators Drifter:

the arm cannon detaches in alt mode and dubs as a nitro tank (I removed the passenger seat to properly accommodate :) ):

    Enjoy!

That's amazing. The NOS tank is a really nice touch.

    Just...damn. What a great idea.

Very impressive, as always. Did all of the pictures make it? There is some text in between the 2nd and 3rd, or 4th, pictures.

Only complaint is the "Ricochet" license plate but I'm sure that's going to change, eventually.

While I'm certainly not the first to add a nitro tank to an Alt, I was just glad to find a better use for at least one part from that KO Arcee. That toy is one of THE worst KO's I've ever owned.

When I was making Alternators Drifter, the cannon seemed really weird (to the point that I had to finish the whole piece before I committed to keeping the whole custom). After I finished this piece, this bot just really grew on me. He's a bit outside of the norm of what I generally do, but he's really grew on me.

Also, I really like the fact that he's just so dark. Initially, I wasn't as keen on a straight black Impreza (keep in mind that I have two Deception Imprezas (Alternators Roadwarp Seeker as well as my Binal Tech Phantom along with my Alternators Ricochet Targetmaster), but that grew on me as well. I like the idea of not having any type of racing deco or anything to break up the black (aside from the red trim on the wheels).

After I decided to commit to Alternators Drifter, I started fiddling around with the idea of what to do with the arm cannon in Alt mode. Sure enough, the piece just fit inside very snugly due to the absence of his right hand transformed and the removal of the seat. I'm glad you like it :)

"NOS. I need lots of NOS."

I still can't believe I watched that crappy movie. Well to be fair it was on TV and there was nothing else on. :lol

    Awesome work Allen! :rock

I think you should take the white plate off the front and fill in the holes, anyway, terrific custom head.

I'll join the club there and say I was watching it as well. I think I watched 10 mins or so of it and then went back to doing something else. :lol  Oddly enough, the tuner movies do provide a source (some anyways hehe) of inspiration. Initial D is a HUGE inspiration to me artistically, as I have a few of the mangas. Also, I've admitted before of my 80s indulgence of the Wraith. I love the concepts of racing cars and of car gangs and their respective atmospheres surrounding them.

Thanks for the props man :D

Hmm . . . that's a good idea. I just might take that into consideration. I had planned on making some sort of license plate on him, even if it was just an Autobot symbol.

So far, he's the only character that I've customized that starts out as an Autobot and ends up as a Decepticon (I've got some faction shifters, but they're either a custom Decepticon to Autobot, or a factory toy). I've had another character in the works for 2 years now, but he is also a Decepticon turned Autobot . . .

Anyways, thanks for the props, DC! I really appreciate it! (I hope we can see more work from you soon too!)

Yeah, I thought that too. Though I've already made an Alternators Runabout:

I eventually want to revisit this guy with a set of labels of some sort . . . :)

    Thanks for the props! :)

    Thanks for the props man!

Yeah, I think you know better than most how I feel about this custom (pk and I had several conversations about me going back and forth with this guy). I think the most fun part for me (looking back) was that see-sawing back and forth. Normally, I have an idea, it's set, I make my plans, and then make it. This guy was not even in my original plans and it wasn't until I finally completed him that I was set on him as a viable piece for me. While I was shooting photos, his character developed more and more . . . :)

Thanks man! I'm glad you like it!

All of your comments and critiques are VERY much appreciated. :thumb

Yep, I remember this piece and I still like it :)  The first one I can remember was from Viagra Prime's 2 Alt Seekers (which is pretty obvious that it inspired me in other ways as well :) ): http://www.tfmaster.com/gallery_kb0040.php I'm not sure if his was first, but I knew mine wasn't. I'm certainly not going to take credit when I know it's not mine to take and vice versa. :)

Thanks man! That's one of the reasons that really solidified this custom for me. I created his profile where he starts out as an Autobot, but jumps over to the Decepticons, but sometimes finds himself helping the Autubots depending on the cause (and also because of his indecision). :)

Thanks 3T; I really appreciate it! I really like the wheels too! :D  I wanted something in alt mode to mirror the red in bot mode, but I really wanted to keep this guy's overall color scheme really dark (and his character and personality developed as a result of that commitment).

I have to be forthcoming guys: I'm really shocked at the response this guy has garnered! At best, this custom was an afterthought of working on other pieces that I've posted this week. That's certainly no slam at all of LiquiD's work (because he did a really nice job!), but more of the fact that I've had a plan for many characters locked in for some time now that I rarely deviate from. I'm glad you guys have really gotten a lot out of him :D  All of your responses have been very uplifting and encouraging; thanks again :thumb

the KO is that bad? :(  that stinks cause I was thinking it'd be cool to get one and just fix the arms so they weren't dumb like the basic. naturally the custom looks kick-ass Allen.

Well, the KO Robotmasters Prime is decent (esp. for $1!), but the KO oversized E-Arcee is just horrible, imo. It's not the most fragile thing in the world and it has a decenly cool light, but aside from that the strong points end there. I didn't feel bad at ALL using the piece of tailpiple for the nitro tank.

As for Arcee's elbows, I did that with my Energon basic:

    :)

I plan to do a heap more customs with this mold because it's one of my favorite basic molds and she's a very decent size for Alts/BTs :)

[for those of you guys wondering, I made a skirt for KP Melissa just to cover her up some :lol ]
