I have been working on my next custom...I update pretty frequently... You can follow the development here: Alternators Armada Red Alert @ Transtopia
looks like hes going through a lot of pain lol, by the way things are going its going to look shop worthy when its finished
Despite my doubts, that actually came out really, really well!! Paint looks great, the repair bay is a smart touch, and Armada Red Alert in fact looks badass!
Dude, can you post a pic of the packaging for that little rubber grommet you used to fit the head on? I have a project that needs the same head on the same body and need that grommet as well. Plus, I get lost in auto parts stores.
I'll see if I can find the packaging...and take a pic...but I think I threw it out. As far as transformation, if I use the Shockblast hand, I have to remove it...but if I use the original Armada hand pieces...I can leave them on. Its a pain in the but...but it works! Thanks eveyone!
I Can Fix That Here are the pics, so you won't have to use the link... Here is a pic of the license plate on the rear bumper. I used Testors Clear Decal Paper and printed it out. Here is a pic of the side. You can see the Red Alert Logo over the rear side window (which i painted over in white.) The red stripe was made using red vinyl. Here is a 3/4 view: Here he is in Vehicle mode with Armada Red Alert and Galaxy Force FirstAid. You can clearly see the headlights which were painted yellow: Bot Mode: Bot Mode 2: An Armada of Red Alerts: I haven't really finished yet: - I'm still painting his minicon LongArm, - I would like to paint the rims gold...but I kinda like the dark silver that he has now. - I am also trying to locate the lightbar from a BinalTech/Alternator Prowl. As soon as I get these done, I will post more pics.
So, you're using a Krylon Fusion paint? I haven't heard of it. Is it play worthy? I repaint figures all the time, but I haven't been able to find a paint that would stand up to wear like the original paint jobs can.
Yes, every "successful" custom I've ever made was using Krylin Fusion paint. I think most of TFMaster.com uses it...because it is very durable and bonds to the plastic. Its very scratch-resistant, but just like any painted item...you do still want to take care. I have a custom here, that I used Testors Enamel paint on...and a year later, I can still touch it and red paint comes off on my hands. With Fusion, I believe you can touch the piece softly with 2 hours, and work with it after 12 hours.
I wish I'd known about Fusion before I'd done my Alt Sunstreaker. That thing chips when I breathe. I'm working on some projects now with KF, and the stuff's a blast. This custom you've done has come out terrifically. It's too bad you decided to give up on the repair bay--it looked like that back panel would have housed it nicely. Still, I love the metallic paintstyle instead of the flat gray. And if you want my opinion, I wouldn't paint the rims of the tires in gold. Match them up and it'll be fine.
Is there any reason you're going after the BT/Alt Prowl lightbar, instead of a 1/24 scale model one? I've been bunches of Prowl kitbashes that used scale model lightbars and turned out great. Also, I'm thinking now that the hood looks a little naked in bot mode. Are you going to leave it in all white, or were you planning to add some more detail? -XCN-
You can pick it up in Wal Mart or most hardware stores. It comes is a ton of colors. There site is here.
