Hey all, I've been looking through most of all of your guys works of art. very Impressed and even jealous heheh. But I thought Id give my self a chance. and do one of my own. those I already made a few mistakes. Like the color of paint. I couldnt find the color I needed, and the color they did have was slightly textured and I ended up using it. But. It still turned out okay... I happen to buy Two Meister's, Just incase. So I'll just need to keep searching for the right color. anyways heres the progress pics and the mostly complete version. I was going through my old box of old transformers. and got an Idea from a beat up AstroMagnum i found at some garage sale some where. I borrowed the Head and Arm piece and Attached it. Obviously It wont transform with the arm attached. But Still looks cool. I hope its not too harsh on the eyes.
Yes, it does look cool! I like what you did. Dont be so hard on yourself, its not harsh on the eyes at all. For a first, it came out fantastic...it doesnt bother me a bit about the arm either. And for the record, I like the paint job....looks cool Keep 'em coming!
Thanks Bro.. I just Wish I could have found the right Color that wasnt Textured. I need the right color of Grey.
Nice work! The inclusion of the actual gun arm is a nice touch! I actually mixed my own paint for mine. I never had any version of Shockwave or "Shackwave" growing up. I ended up getting a G1 Shockwave at Botcon 2K1 and instantly loved the toy! When I first started kitbashing, this idea was one of my first. I hope we see more from you
I was inspired by the shockblast alt. And since I had a Grey Shockwave (AstroMagnum) I decided to change it up , and See would I could do with the the parts.
thanks for the comment. and I like your version Pretty much what I had in mind, but with a Darker Smoother Grey. I guess mine just looks more grittier. with the textured paint.
Animattronic, when u say textured are you referring to the metal flake I see in the paint, or is it actually textured to where you can feel something on the paint?.... If youre talking about the metal flake I see, thats cool, thats one of the things I like about it. BTW, what type of paint did u use?
Thanks for the props. Back when the RX-8 came out, I matched my paint as close as I could to the darker gray that Mazda actually made the RX-8 in. Trying to match the realism of the actual vehicle is important to me
I just used Krylon spray, and it is textured to the touched. a lil rough not terribly but you can totally notice it. oh well
Yep, sandpaper is your friend The Testors fine grit sandpaper (that can be easily found in most Wal*mart stores) and some water'll do the trick if that's the way you wanna go. Also after you wetsand, you might want to put on a coat of clearcoat acrylic, just to keep it from being rough in any way. Keep up the good work man!
Actually, the texture is pretty bad ass. It makes him look like he's heavily armored or something. I like it! Mike
I expected a straight repaint of Shockblast, like what Superquad did, but the use of original parts is an interesting touch. I also like the textured paint look. It's too bad he cant transform without removing his new parts, cos his vehicle mode looks great.
LOOKS GOOD ! I belive the paint is like a "hammered steel finish, spray paint" I saw something similar at Wal-mart ..... This paint is intended to have a tough textured feel to it so I'm a little skeptical as to using sandpaper on it, I'm guessing it would end up looking like a topy-graphical map that shows heights, all the textured bits might come out looking white-ish and you would likely end up with a lot of build up around the different "heights". Sanding changes the color/finish so if your gonna sand you would need to reapply paint - no ? or at the very least break out you're professional polishing kit for model cars. If it was just one flat peice I'd say give it a try but this is a 1/24 car basically so you must sand all areas evenly - around all the curves & contours without sanding through the paint........I feel a migraine coming on already. So to get this smoothed out and keep its original color......I might just have to see it to belive it , clear coat or not, unless you've got a professional polishing kit for model cars and your an absolute master at using.... - I'd leave it the way it is, it looks good so if it aint broke don't fix it. TTT
Thanks '][' '][' '][' heh. I did buy two of the same car. So Ill just do a another version and if turns out, Ill turn that other one into a TransTorture Inspired piece.
YAAAAAAAHHHHH ! ! ! .... DO IT ! ! ! ...... Seriously though, he looks good - only cream him if you have to....... ........ TTT
apologies, man.didn't mean to sound like i eas accusing u of not watching the racks,or being unoriginal.just had the obvious question,i thought. does look pretty good, though.
