    Hi all.

I'm finally getting around to my own version of Alt Ironhide (with working headlights), and need some advice. Is it possible to detach the hood from the rest of the toy? How have those of you who have repainted this mold handled this?

Ive done this, and if I remember, once you take the pins out that connect the black hinges to the blue part on the hood there are screws on the blue part that holds it to the hood... Dont get me wrong those pins are a royal pain

Cut a piece of 1/8 hollow styrene tubing to a length that will fit snugly between the blue hinge frame (in the middle).

That way the blue plastic won't crack when you try and remove the pins by tapping on the outer sides of each hinge. The styrene will serve to brace the blue plastic hinges while allowing a place (because it's hollow) for the targeted pin to "eject" into.

I wish I'd known that trick when I made Motormaster last year, man. I ended up doing heavy masking as I left mine attached because I saw stress marks forming and said heck no!
