Maybe it's a pronounciation thing, maybe a soft 'g' sounds dirtier than a hard 'g' or vice versa, who knows? Also, I apparently ninja'd you. How does that happen?

why do people hate the term so much? is it because of the slur (I just learned of the slur today) or they just don't like the word?

CHUG, CHUGRU, and other similiar forms are terms used by moronic people who A. Cant call it by the toyline they were actually in. B. Refuse to simply call it "Classics".

Probably because it looks obnoxious and is really annoying to read, not to mention it's racist. Much like how like some people refer the NHL games (NHL11, 10, etc.) as 'CHEL. Just plain annoying to some people. Me included

Now y'all are being ridiculous. There's nothing wrong with the term CHUG, and there's nothing wrong with Gestalt. Just cos you don't want to use it doesn't mean someone else can't or shouldn't.

The same goes for Spastic, or building your own Wrecker crew out of random figures....

 

For the purpose of selling things on the board and to avoid confusion, I'll refer to each American toy by its corresponding line (Classics Mirage, Universe 2.0 Prowl, Generations Warpath, RTS Wreck-Gar, etc.). But for the purpose of discussion, I put them all under the Classics banner (Classics Prowl, Classics Warpath, Classics Wreck-Gar, etc.). Japanese releases are much easier to notate since it's either Henkei or United.

But if someone wants to refer to them as CHUG, then that's fine too. I'm not really going to judge a person on what they decide to call a couple of neo-G1 toylines.

 

I was wondering that for the first 6 weeks I was here too  . I always liked the Classics line even though I wasn't into the hobby when they were selling at retail. Then I discovered Universe (or Universe 2.0) came out as well, then the more recent Generation line.

Henkei was the toyline I didn't notice until a bit later, but man I wish I could gotten into those at the time. I know the Transformers United figures kinda took over, but for the most part, they're kind of an indulgence compared to the Generations/RTS IMO  

 

I agree. The word does not define anything specific (as it may mean to drink something fast, a racial slur, or a sexual term), so it means whatever you want it to mean. Either way, don't tell these people about it: Centricity Healthcare User Group (CHUG)

 

"CHUG" is a stupid acronym but more power to you if you want to use it

I have to admit, I'm just lazy and refer to all the iterations of Classics lines as Classics. I don't have a problem with the term CHUG but I don't feel compelled to use the term myself. Same thing with Gesalts. I call them Combiners but I don't have an issue with the term Gesalts. I also don't feel compelled to refer to the Combiners as Gesalts.
