i want to get into transformers comics. Someone said to try this series.

    What are your thoughts?

Where is the best place to buy a set of the trade paperbacks? or would it be better to go with the comics?

I'd start with "Infiltration", which is really the start of the IDW series of comics. I'd go for the trade paperbacks over comics, and try Amazon or ebay.

so infiltration is first, then AHM?

is there a site that puts this continuity all in order?

    Hey CVprowl:
    The comics are very confusing!
Transformers (comics) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The above may be full of spoilers.

Go to your local library and see if they have some trades there. A lot of the UK stuff made it to libraries around where I live and it may be a cheap start.

AHM is like the G1 Cartoon. The Simon Furman (author) stories are a larger space opera which are excellent, but not at all like the G1 cartoon in style.

There was a similar thread recently, but here's the order to read the tpbs. At least in my opinion. It is broadly publication order rather than strict chronology order but it works best for me.

    1. Infiltration
    2. Stormbringer
    3. Spotlight, Vol 1
    4. Escalation
    5. Spotlight, Vol 2
    6. Devastation
    7. Spotlight, Vol 3
    8. Revelations
    9. Maximum Dinobots
    10. All Hail Megatron Vol 1 - 4
    11. For All Mankind
    12. Bumblebee
    13. Ironhide
    14. International Incident

There is also "Megatron Origin", a flashback story that can be read at anytime.

Rather than buy each tpb, you could invest in "The IDW Collection" series of hardback collections, which collects 2-3 worth of tpbs each. But they're not too cheap and vol 1-2 already seem hard to come by just a few months after publication.

perfect. then where does current comics come in after that? how many lines do they have running. this seems way more complicated than the joe comic verse. i just figured that one out. : )

so none of what you have listed above is from the movieverse continuity?

"For all Mankind" and "International Incident" are the two TPBs that the current Ongoing have come out with. Issue #13 of the ongoing follows International Incident, but it will probably be out in TPB form by the time you've gotten caught up.

If you can get IDW collection volume 1,2,3. They are collections of the trade paper backs in the comics chronologicle order. So they save you the hassle of having to figure out which one to read next.

They're just the ongoing comic. 15 issues out so far. The first six are collected in "For All Mankind" the second six are collected in "International Incident"

Here's my reading order from bottom to top

Oyeah, The Drift miniseries as seen in ORIOs pic is part of IDWs G1 verse too.

Marvel released a crossover a few years back featuring the Transformers and the Avengers (Spiderman, Ironman, Wolverine etc), I didn't care for it and it didn't impact the series really but it takes place between Infiltration and Escalation I belive. I don't recommend it though but if you want it ALL its there.

Also besides the Spotlights collected into tpbs there is Spotlight: Prowl. It is the most recent Spotligth but havn't been included in a tpb, not yet anyway (if the spotlights return I guess it might get included in a future tpb).
