Maybe, let's see. If others artists start going that route too it might be true, but comissioned or not, I know I hate it.
I believe Don's new movie style started with Defiance issue 3. Yeah, it's a movie comic, but I mean it looked markedly different from his previous work, including his previous movie work.
Ooooh....Idk about the movie mix here. Prime looks okay, but Ironhide just doesn't look right to me. Maybe I need to see more.
new pollution. that last pic of prime, his face just looks so small, and his helmet looks so oversized... just not a good look. But on the whole, it's not at all bad. I like the writing and art, just not sure about some of the choices.
hey, Spotlight: Nightbeat was awesome. It was drawn by Mark Bright, who also did the cover for Marvel G1 issue 5, aka, the legendary Shockwave "ARE ALL DEAD" cover.
Oh Jeez... I respect those who like the Movie Verse stuff, although I may not. There are things that are there to enjoy, and I'm glad it's making the franchise some serious dough. I've always been a fan of Don's work. I feel he is the best TF artist in the franchises history. I even felt that his work on the Movie based comics made those messes of metal look respectable. However, this is just shit. Seriously, if Hasbro is deciding that ALL TF iterations are going to look like the Movie based stuff, including G1, then fuck 'em is all I can really say. I liked the fact that while I disliked the Movie-verse (art style, story, characters), I could still go to the other iterations like Animated for, IMO, "normal" Transformers. This shit is just not my cup of tea unfortunately.
You know from someone who really dislikes the movie verse, be it designs or story, I really don’t mind this more movie style of my classic Transformers. They still maintain a strong aesthetic of the originals yet, with a nice updated look. In addition it further proves that the classic G1 designs, with a bit of work, would have worked in a real world setting. In a nutshell for me, as long as the general look stays close to its source and the stories are phenomenal (IDW has always done a great job at accomplishing both) I am one happy fan boy.
Damn, guess I finally need to get off my arse and start reading this series. Btw, this follows Infiltration, and what else? Also are those available in TPB yet?
I'm really liking Don's new style. I've always been his biggest fan, though. He is always getting better.
The worst part is how tiny the faces look. At least in the movie they all fit their looks, but the way Don drew 'em... it looks like a kid wearing his father's hat, except it's the ugliest kid i've ever seen.
Got to give him credit for making universe Ironhide not so kibbletastic in the artwork, but in all I do think a change in style every now and again is a good thing.
I'm actually quite surprised this is Don's work. He's definitely going in a new direction. This just seems a bit too Gundam-y for me though.
