    It's near official.

Alexandria, VA is most likely our next city of residence for the upcoming years.

Anyone from there that can give us a "feel" of what the city is like? What to do, what not to do, etc?

Humidity's an issue. I had a brother-in-law out there who was an avid outdoor runner. I'm told he melted one day and just washed into the gutter.

Yeah, I'm really not looking forward to the humidity. I really hate humidity. I'll probably end up staying indoors all the time with the AC set at 65 degrees.

We also looked at Rockville and Bethesda, MD as well as Arlington, VA.

I didn't want to live by so many dead soldiers so we chose Alexandria.

Cool. I live in Annandale. The weather's nice most of the time but can get into the late 90s.It is illegal for a man to kick his wife out of bed. It is illegal for a man to pat his wife's derriere.

In my hometown, it's illegal to take a shower during the day (old law from 1800's) :lol

Found it on a website. I have no idea where the law came from.

The traffic around there gets awfully hectic in the afternoons. I'm assuming Berkeley isn't much better, so you're probably a natural at the ol' turn-signal-bob-and-weave.

Portions of Alexandria have a higher crime rate than others; similar to any suburban area close to a big city. Occasional gang violence, but not NEAR as much as Prince George's or areas north (i.e., MD.)

Oh, and something REALLY important - if you plan to do ANY traveling southbound on 95, I would suggest mapping out alternatives to getting on 95. Taking 395 southbound into the 495/95 intersection is like riding a unicycle through a BMX course - awkward and frightening.

Oh, and the beltway (495) usually has a fair share of Fast & the Furious style speed racers on it around 4:00-5:00am. Not like I know anything about that. :D

Gotta let me know when you're in town and you have some free time, dude - I'll show you that vintage toy place up in Maryland. Their prices are goofy - some are ridiculously inflated, some are just waaay below what the toy should be worth - but that whole area of Wheaton, MD is a great place to waste a whole afternoon.

Crap. I hope we're not in the more violent part of Alexandria.

The place we found was here: 5515 Dorset Drive, Alexandria , VA 22311

Right next to the 395. So a unicycle through a BMX course eh? Hopefully it's not too bad.

Well looking from this you've got a nice courtyard in your neighborhood. Since you're also by 395 you get a lot of the rush hour traffic. There's no metrorail stops near your area, but Im sure there are plenty of bus routes nearby. You've got Landmark Mall just over a mile from your place, and Pentagon City is a few miles to the north. Toys'R Us is north from the main road and off to the left on Leeburg Pike.
If you plan on going to DC for just about anything, it's best to find a metrorail station to park and take the train in. The metro will take you just about anywhere if you're not afraid to walk.

As for the humidity, it gets really bad beginning around late May, early June right around through the early part of August. The A's come only once a year to Baltimore. I wouldn't recommend becoming a Nats fan anytime soon. The worst part is you're stuck in Redskins land. They tend to have delusions of grandeur in September and they become angry or disillusioned by November. Part of the territory.

The place we got has a shuttle that goes to the Pentagon City Metro station so at least that will help. My wife will be working in the Old Executive Building so she'll need that shuttle.

I did a little search and am glad that there's a Target close by as well as the TRU you mentioned. I think Wal*Mart was a bit to the south.

Now I just need to find a good comic book store.

I will most likely try to land a job with the Nats after I settle down. They'll be getting a new stadium next year and I'm looking forward to that. The Orioles are too far away to be working for. But I'll also be looking into jobs available with the Capitals, Wizards, Redskins, Georgetown and U of Maryland.

Basically any sports related jobs out there.

Now if only there was something I could do about the damned humidity.

One of the local chains is Pheonix Comics & Toys. They have two stores in the area - one up in Herndon (where I am) and one down near George Mason University. Their stores are nice and clean, the staff is pretty professional and they stay up-to-date in terms of the comics rolling in.

http://phoenixcomics.com/ is their site. Bit of a drive from Alexandria for either NoVA store, but believe me - worth the drive.

    Update.

We're waiting on the lease forms from the place we're renting from. But other than that, it's pretty much set in stone that Alexandria is going to be our home for at least one year.

After that, we're going to look into buying a house. No idea where yet though.

Been bubble wrapping every damned TF I own. It SUCKS.

But you know what the one realization I've come to after all this packing?

    6" TITANIUMS SUCK.

The figures aren't that great to begin with AND they come in odd shaped boxes that are a PAIN to pack into a box.

    I should've sold them.

    Correction.

    I should've never bought them.

I've got a two bedroom townhome in Maryland that'll be up for rent around that time:D

And the only thing worse than packing is unpacking, when somehow you tend to have more stuff than when you moved out.
