It certainly grabbed my attention more as the sketchy black and white art... I think it would be kind of cool to have a TF series done with that kind of raw dynamic approach.

But then, me like the sketchy art. :)

Hm. I'm kind of figuring that's just a symbolic gesture, showing how the decepticons will grow out of the blood shed by Megatron in his early days. And I suspect that's not actually "paint", but probably some integral fluids from another poor bot...

On the Decepticon symbol, and how it resembles Soundwave... it's funny, but many folks read that the symbol was based on Soundwave. Isn't it possible that Soundwave was made to resemble the symbol? Just a thought.

Though of course, the symbol probably resembles him because initially Hasbro was planning on making Soundwave the leader of their bad guys, since he was a larger figure... but then decided on something more "aggressive" than a tape recorder. :)

I'm guessing you're talking more from a storytelling standpoint rather than a toy-based one, since the Microman CassetteMan that became Soundwave predates Transformers and the Decepticon symbol.

In the case of the first paragraph, I'm talking about storytelling. Some people have written fanfics explaining that the Con emblem was modeled after Soundwave's face (for some reason or another).

When I was talking about the Decepticon symbol more likely being based on Soundwave's face because Hasbro was planning on using him (CassetteMan) for their enemy leader figure... obviously I'm talking about the toyline.

I know how old the Soundwave mold is... we were born the same year. :)

    (which still blows my mind)

You think Megs was working as a construction worker, judging by those black/yellow stripes? Would explain his heavy armor and overall great strenght... good attributes when becoming a gladiator.

He used to be a construction vehicle? Maybe that's why the constructicons were creating Megatron on the cartoon. :D

Does anyone know how well the TF franchise is doing for IDW? Are they making a good profit off of it at all?

I always thought that too. Though, I heard some fans thinking Soundwave was Megs-sama son or something along that line. Aw, Megatron got lonely so created a duplicate. But I've already done that story, wicked awesome stuff. haha!

As I said before, Optimus was houseware and Megs was weapons of war. I don't know how this line of origins is gonna go but if it's followin' the G1 then it'll probably sorta like the same. Two lines of robots, one built to take care of the homes of alien buyers and the others to fight for government alien buyers.

So, the reason why the Decepticons came to be was a bunch of disgruntled war machines were bored with peaceful Autobot housekeepers and said "Let's play the take over the universe game" and they over time forgot it was just a game, 'bots started killing each other and everything got kinda out of hand. Then, young Megs came along? Haha, that sounds kinda fun. Sign me up sir! *salutes*

lol They needed a friend. But I always thought it was weird they built him and he leads them. In the cartoon it's like they needed a leader so they just built one. Why can't we do that???? :D

Yellow and black strips are attractive. I like mine as zigzags racin' up the spine, but havin' them on your arms and legs is cool too.

<~~~ Supports theory Megs was once a road block and Soundwave was once a streetlamp.

I was thinkin more along the lines that they just gave him a new body...so that he wouldn't be a construction vehicle anymore. :D

I don't know how well things are doing for them in terms of numbers. But the primary reason I'm here is IDW's comics hooked me right back into the franchise after 15 years of total apathy. I think they're excellent, and they have gotten me back into Transformers AND comics. I have 5 friends who didn't care at all about Transformers until I hooked them on the comics. If they ever stop making them, I'll cry. Seriously.

Actually Megatron's background starting as a gladiator comes from the 1985 UK annual story "State Games". I have no idea what Eric Holmes had in mind, but I hope it holds some similarity with that story.
