Ever since the new pioneer dub was released, there's been alot of fan controversey about which is better. I honestly like both, but i wanted to know your opinions.

    EDIT: Added Dub Comparision

Depends.. do you want your Kaneda to send like Leonardo from TMNT or do you want him to sound like Ichigo from Bleach? xD

I voted neither, Akira is a horribly overrated film.

Both are fine as far as I'm concerned.

Honestly, read the manga instead. It doesn't try to cram 2000 pages in under 2 hours.

just by watching that clip posted above, i must say, if for nothing else, but me NOT recognizing the voices as typical voice actors used in anime today, is a BIG plus for the original.

the original, while i am not sure if it is more or less accurate to the original, i do prefer the voice acting more. to me it just sounds better. sounds less like they are trying to dub an anime, and more like they are trying to dub a masterpiece.

but either way. the film was never that great in my opinion. but, if i was to watch one, i'd watch the original, it's the same reason why i prefer the Robotech Dub vs the Macross dub. while the Macross dub, might be more accurate to the original, i do prefer the robotech voice acting. with the exception of Lynn Minmay. Rebbecca West is NO Mari Iijima. that's for sure. :)

how ever. i'd prefer her to of voiced Lynn Minmay in english, 20 YEARS earlier, so she wouldn't sound like she's a 40 year old, while she's trying to BE a 16 year old lol

Yeah, the manga, INDEFINATLY, is better. I always wondered why Otomo didn't just make a two parter like they're doing with the live action adaptation. And 555th post, woo!

I think I prefer the original. While the main characters sound better in the original, the new dub does do a slightly better job on side characters. But I like my Keneda to sound like a pissed off biker, not a loveable screw up.

Plus the original gave us "TETSUOOOOOOOOOOOO"

Akira was the first DVD I ever bought (at a very steep price too!), and I was a little jarred to hear the new dub which I wasn't expecting. At first I was wishing the original was available on the DVD as well, but after watching it a few times over the years, I've come to enjoy the newer dub.

    No sh*t. Surprised me.

The Pioneer dub is o.k., but I liked the earlier dub better. I prefer Kuh-NAY-duh over KAH-nee-dah.
