Thank God. I didn't even know they were doing it. Fans Rejoice: Live-Action 'Akira' is "Dead as a Doornail" - Cinematical
You never know, it could have been good. You can't go in and expect it to be the classic animated film. Its a live action adaptation and as such has its own life. Much like 'Transformers'. With other animation adaptations on the horizon, 'Robotech', 'Ghost In The Shell' and 'Voltron' for instance, its becomming a new trend and although die hard fans will hate the live action ones regardless of how good they are on their own, I'm looking forward to them. If not anything else it steers more attention to the original animated work.
I enjoyed both those movies, but it really is a good thing this movie is dead. I just don't think it would have translated well at all.
Haven't seen 'Speed Racer' and never liked 'Dragonball' in any form, but I have seen 'Devil Man', which had hideously bad acting and bad plotting, but some nice effects.
I have a hard time seeing how Akira could have worked as a real movie, let alone content but look and feel too - the themes are very Japanese in origin and I can't see how it would translate. Relate it to 9/11 I guess like they throw around in any other movie nowadays. Speed Racer was great on Imax. It, like Pushing Daisies, are not things that should be watched on small or sd screens - they're made to work with the visual technology. That said, as much as I liked Speed Racer, I can totally see why someone else wouldn't - it was completely insane and I was surprised I liked it even a little (and I actually liked it a lot), considering I have no love for the cartoon series/franchise at all. I'm looking forward to the live action Ghost in the Shell Speilbergo is producing, if that ever comes about. It could be awful, or not - either way is ok because we can always just ignore it and watch the source material if we really feel like it.
Minus the second guyver film, I have yet to see a live action film that does an anime justice. So, probably a good thing that this didn't happen.
Hello Even i watched that movies its really very very nice i like them,,,, online movie ticket booking chennai
City Hunter was AWESOME... but its Jackie Chan pre-hollywood so it was bound to be. I can't think of any more decent anime film conversions... I guess Crying Freeman wasn't a total disaster. Was Fist of the North Star with Gary Daniels any good?
Thank God. Speed Racer sucked. Dragonball sucked. Mostly likely Akira would've sucked as well. YouTube - The American Akira (Coming 2011)
I was actually kinda looking forward to seeing what they'd do with it, to be honest. Ah well, probably best left as is anyway. As for good anime adaptations, Blood: The Last Vampire looks pretty good (although I've never seen the original).
I think if Akira was a 2 or 3 movie deal it could have been pretty damn good ignore the condensed Anime movie and work off the entire manga
With the backing it has, the Robotech movie has a shot at being good. Same for Ghost in the Shell. i am just burned by the first Matrix film being solid and then 2 sequels of suck. i don't want that to happen to anime. Akira- great. LA Akira- suckdom.
