yes i know I'm about to be flamed. but hear me out.

i know they haven't use the matrix yet, but there is still time!
It could easily be the answer for so many questions and still have ties to g1 and not losing anything from the all spark ideology

Initial ideas
the mystical "matrix of leadership" is nothing more than a large chunk of
the all spark. Housed in a crude casing (ala early atom bombs) and designed to help channel the all spark power this little artifact is capable of giving certain autobots boosted abilities.

we've seen the all spark charge/change matter (tfa wreckgar) and vehicles (tfa police bots, contructicons) into new beings. we've seen the same physiological changes in bearers of the Matrix (g1 Optimus and Rodimus)

Both exude the same type of white-ish glow. tfa & g1
Both are capable of powerful "energy" blasts.(g1 rodimus & unicron) (tfa optimus & key with Megatron)

Both have the ability to "guide" their respective bearers. (g1 rodimus and optimus "visions" and journeys within the matrix) (tfa Sari's dna)

Tfa Starscream's allspark attained immortal spark & the G1 Primes abilities to transcend time (via the matrix...ala immortal spark)

TFA Ultra Magnus' size discrepency over his autobots is not any different
than a matrix wielding G1 Optimus

it could easily be argued that the coucil of ancients took a piece of the all spark before they cast it out into the universe. Giving your appointed "leader" the largest and only remaining chunk of allspark is a pretty big deal. This would allow your leader to be imbued with all this is the allspark. Power, Wisdom, Goodness. A natural point for authority over all.

It would not be uncommon for such an event to happen. Indeed as we humans lost the mystical and potent Ark of the Covenant so too did the Autobots lose the all spark (symbolism much?). In exactly the same manner both were "lost" in fear of having the unworthy attain possession of it. We retain the stories of the Ark (bible) as well as the written words (10 commandments) or essentially a piece of that mystical item. again not hard to believe that the autobots would not do the same.

anyway just some thoughts I had while in the shower. just watched fistful of energon...oh boy, that was a good one.

really I'm a huge G1 fan.
I really like beast wars & how it got tied in.

this would be a cool tie in for TFA as this series as the started it's shows showing G1 clips

 

Why would this be the answer to so many questions? What questions? Why should there be a Matrix of Leadership for Transformers Animated anyways?

i would love to see one. I'm not very excited about this all spark stuff
as it pretty much is weak sauce imo, so having a matrix would be cool.

we all know prime with the matrix is cool. this would imo tie into g1 even more. it's not like they aren't trying.

 

TFA is not in the same continuity as G1. The allspark in animated is different from the allspark in G1. Deal with it.

Why is Optimus Prime with the Matrix of Leadership cool? Back then, when I watched G1 season 1 and 2, Optimus Prime was cool because of the way he behaved, not because he carried some weird jewel in his chest (which he didn't have anyway, until the 86 movie, where it is assumed to have always been there. Yay retcons). Safe for some 4 or 5 episodes, the Matrix of Leadership didn't play a big role anyway.

Also, Beast Wars and Beast Machines introduced all that "weird spark stuff", which now all transformer authors try to retcon into G1 too.
The Allspark is an amalgation of the Allspark Cube from the 2007 Bay-Movie, the Matrix of Leadership from the 86 animated movie, and the Matrix of Creation from the early Marvel-G1-comics. It's quite clear that TF: A has elements from the modern Bay-film as well as the old G1-comics and cartoons (who were quite different. Yay different continuities), and then some others, while still being completely different and new.

I don't think that the Animated-authors will try to retcon some kind of Leadership Matrix into Animated unless Bay decides to have that sparkle-thingy too in his sequel.

 

A little video or visual homages is completely different from adding that stupid Unicron-Killing object to the story, the most you'll probably see is a "cameo" like we get to see Ultra Magnus' room at Cybertron and there's the matrix as some kind of decoration on the wall.

 

In my opinion, I'm not sure if another MacGuffin is required for the show...

 

yup optimus is cool.

i don't mind a matrix of leadership.
i'd love to see it. even in cameo which i agree is probably how we'll see it.

i agree there are tons of different continuities over my 25 years of watching transformers.
i've enjoyed most.
i like the various intergrations. we agree that they are there, yet flame when some one asks for one more? silly rabbits.

Perhaps we could have a one-shot cameo appearance by the Matrix... in Lockdown's trophy cabinet.

 

IMO, the allspark is as close as we need to get to the Matrix in Animated. Its pretty much the same damn thing, its just not a leadership device.

It wasn't a bad idea. But if and when it does appear it will just be another homage to G1. Nothing more, nothing less.

Its not like any of the other TF serries were with out G1 nods.
