So, I am a complete Apple n00b. I bought a Touch 32 GB a while ago, and then proceeded to Jailbreak it. Sweet, sweet Jailbreaking.

Now, i realise i'd accidentally left iTunes to update the thing to iOS 4.0.2, which is very unfriendly towards Jailbreaking. Cydia's disappeared, along with Installous, none of the stuff works, etc.

Now, is there any way to go back an OS? I see you can get copies of the OS online, but i have no idea how that works. I'm not exactly optimistic, but i figured i'd ask anyways.

Yay I found a fellow jailbreaker!

If you backedup your shsh in Cydia(I assume you would have)

follow these instructions(from Caching Apple's Signature Server - Jay Freeman (saurik))

replace any reference of 3.1 to 4.0.2 and 3.0 to 4.0
much easier to view at linked site...

Heh, yeah, back up the shsh. Right.

Did i mention i'm totally computer illiterate? Forums are about as computer savvy as i get. I have no idea what half of that stuff is saying. Now, of course, i didn't back up the shsh (what the hell is that anyways?), well, not knowingly at least. I think i'll just stick to waiting for the new jailbreak that hopefully should be here soon (hopefully!).

I will try and follow your instructions as best i can when i get home.

If you went into Cydia and ever clicked "Make my life Easier" it's backed up

In recovery mode there was absolutely nothing. Zip. Zero. I did get the Apple logo on it a few times when i first tried it, but i made f***ing sure that it had nothing, and iTunes itself recognises it's in recovery mode.

Skywarp, could you post a screenshot of what you did in Notepad? I put the thing in Notepad as my guide said, but i'm not sure if i did it right, and i'd love to see what a correct one looks like.

Copy the one it gives. That's what it looked like when I opened the file and I pasted the ip right under the last one like it said.

Also, skip the recboot steps, you won't need it, as it should restore fine.

Skywarp, I hope you realise that link you gave me was WRONG!

How could you, man? The link was incorrect...

...Because it said i needed RecBoot, and i'd get errors and stuff. None of that happened, I'm happily using my iPod on version 4.0, and will jailbreak soon. You rock, man!
