What figures are there that serve as a good representation of G1 Optimus Prime? Like I say in the title, I want it to be affordable, so no MP (as much as I want it...)

Kinda depends too on what you would consider "affordable".

    Ebay:
If $100 is still in your range, you could get Igear's Faith Leader.
You could also score a Hasbro release of the original Masterpiece Prime MISB for a bit cheaper. Even less if he is loose ( I see some auctions ending at around $50 just to give you an idea).

Robot Masters Convoy isn't very easy to find, but he can pop up here and there for about $20 loose.
And if you don't care too much about the vehicle mode, you can get Classics Deluxe Prime. He usually comes in a 2 pack with Megatron, and was just spotted at Dollar General for $20.

    MP?

More affordable would be something like 25th Anniversary Optimus which is great but obviously little articulation, transformation is boring (but brilliant).

If you want a G1 Prime (which I feel *every* collector needs, even a Beast Wars fan), than try searching ebay for "optimus prime 25th anniversary." It's a great toy.

I've been looking for him and Megatron with no luck. I did find Starscream, though.

My absolute ultimate G1 Optimus prime for my collection is the Henkei voyager.

What the chap with the awesome sig says.

Then again I still have my original one from '84 (who's a little battered nowadays) and the 25th Anniversary edition, too. The Robot Hero and 3 inch Titanium are excellent, too, if you're looking for something smaller.

I think it also depends on where you shop.
I would look at the Junkion exchange here, I'll bet someone has a
good deal on a decent Optimus somewhere.

Yeah, I recommend RtS Legends and Classics Voyager.

RtS Legends is very faithful to the original, while Classics Voyager is an awesome modern interpretation.

    Ebay:
Depends entirely about what you really want.

If you actually want an original G1 Optimus Prime toy then the 25th Anniversary edition shouldn't be too hard to find, and even before that there have been countless reissues. I picked up a reissue Prime for £10 a few years ago, so he's probably fairly easy to get.

If you want a updated representation of him, then you have quite a few options.
    - RTS Legends
    - Classics Deluxe (Awful vehicle mode though)
    - Classics Voyager
    - Robot Masters
    - Faith Leader
    - Masterpiece

And if you want something a little more adventurous, there's Alternators and WFC.
