I'm looking for ideas for affordable shelving for my collection, as of lately most of them are stored in boxes in my bed room. I already have a 3 tier shelf that I need to pick up but I'm gonna need more shelves, so I'm open to any suggestions.

So far this is one I have been looking at:

Walmart.com: 5-Shelf Corner Bookcase, Black & Light Oak: Furniture

But I'm not sure it it'll be enough for my collection.

    So let's see some suggestions.

    I have several of these:
    Walmart.com: 5-Shelf Bookcase, Oak: Furniture

They're inexpensive and do a nice job. The only draw back is over time any shelves with heavy objects on it will begin to bow. I'm talking a shelf full of college text books or 3-ring binders. As for TFs they're all pretty lite by comparison and I haven't had a problem with any of my shelves warping.

Another suggestion would be to go to home depot or Lowe's and get the track system you mount on the wall (I recommend the double track not the single). That way you can adjust the shelving to what ever height you want.

I have three of those and two of the three shelf ones. I also have 3 of the plastic ones you assemble.

I really want to get one of those glass cases from Ikea.

If you are storing in boxes, you might considering purchases wall shelving. Just a long painted 12" piece of wood that sticks out of the wall with supports running every few feet. You can install them yourself on any wall, so you can determine how much space you want between them.

I did this myself in one of my closets for storing MISB, and I went to Lowe's and purchased everything myself. I stacked mine anywhere from 18" to 30" inches above one another, running from the ground up to about 8 feet.

I bought a bunch of particle wood and built my shelving. It's not very attractive, but no one has ever said anything about the shelving. The big thing to watch out for when taking this route is the make sure you put a bracket in the middle of the boards for longer shelving, otherwise the particle board is liable to bend and get weak. There's pics in my collection thread if you want a better idea of what I'm talking about.

EDIT: Here's a link to the pics http://www.tfw2005.com/boards/transformers-collection-showcase/87497-my-collection-9.html

Those Detolf cabinets really are best, but if you don't have an IKEA near you it will cost as much to ship it as the cabinet costs by itself. I went to Lowe's and bought a lot of the white veneer shelves (which are pretty cheap) and just mounted the adjustable brackets. The good thing about this system is that you can move the shelves up and down without having to re-drill holes.

Example of both Detolf and veneer shelving:

some nice ideas guys, keep them coming.

As for detolfs and wall mounted shelves im not sure, im living in a single wide trailer so i dont have a lot of room, i might go with the corner shelf and a wall mounted shelf or 2.

Track shelving is the way to go IMO.

I've been using the trackmount shelving for a long time. It lets you pick the shelf size & height no matter what. Plus if you move, it's really easy to remove and re-install.

I bought two four-tiered shleves at Family Dollar for $15 a pop... personally, I think they're awesome... easy to assemble, and very effective. They're not closed, though, so dusting is a necessity (that I neglect all too often). Pics in my collection thread here: http://www.tfw2005.com/boards/trans...ger-but-proud-collection-super-pic-heavy.html

    (beer not included)

The second set of pics include a new set of shelves (the black with gray bars on the side) which came with the computer desks my girlfriend and I bought when we moved to this apartment. Those were not so cheap, ($80 per desk/shelf set) and they work, but I like the Family Dollar ones a lot more.

I've come to the realization that I'm going to just have to buy wood and L-brackets and mount my own shelves to the wall. I don't like the space restriction of cabinets.

I usually go for locked glass shelves with lights in them to protect my investment.

I think I'm eventually going to go to those, especially with my G1s.

As for my Alts/Bts, I have this shelf here:

The photo is a little over a year old, but you can see the size of it a little better:

I bought it at Sam's Club for $60, but I'm not sure what they are now. Note that mine has gray shelves and not woodgrain.

I think my shelf is drunk, it keeps wobbling back and forth.

In all seriousness it's an ok shelf, needs some L brackets to sturdy it up for sure though.
