I was just reminiscing about the day at school I told my friends I liked Beast Wars (it was airing at the time)

*cue flashback* I was sitting with my friends at the lunch table and I told them I liked Beast Wars and the guys were all like "you like Transformers?!" "That show is awesome!" "I like the part when..." and the discussion went on like that for the rest of lunch. They all watched the show too. I thought they were going to laugh at me for liking cartoons and it was the total opposite!

Of course I ruined it by saying "Beast Wars is a Transformers show?" :lol . I mean I knew it said it in the opening scene, but it just really never connected. Because to me growing up Transformers were cars. (This was also somewhere mid first season, so we still didn't know it was connected to G1, etc.)

How did you come out as a fan? What were people's reactions?

"You like Transformers! No way, me too! I'm such a nerd. I love Bumblebee. He's a cool car."
    "Meh, I like Optimus more."
    "Who's that?"

    Actual conversation. :redface2:

:lol  That reminds me when I was at a convention and a boy was dressed as Starscream and I Rodimus, he asked me what Transformer I was. I said "don't talk to me" and he was like "I'm sorry I only know Starscream, but I love the show".

85% of the reactions from people outside my family are this:

    "Grow up nerd!"
    "Ew, nerd!"
"You still like toys? You baby!"

But my one close friend is alright with it. She has her hobby of rollerskating, I have mine of collecting and watching Transformers.

:lol  was he a little kid?

Personally, I never mention it until someone mentions it to me. And even then I have to be aware not to confuse/bore them

I usually don't come out and say "I'm a Transformers fan" to other people. If I do bring it up, it's because something else would bring it up or ask me if I like Transformers.
However, during my junior year of high school, in my English class, we had to bring a paper bag filled with five things that best represented us; For example, if you play sports, you brought in a jersey or something. We would then use these items to explain five things about ourselves.
Among the items I brought, I brought along a keychain of Optimus Prime (The armada version). When I took it out of the bag, I just said about myself: "I'm a huge nerd."

I don't remember ever "coming out." I've always been a fan and everyone's always known it. I guess because I never bought into the whole "you are expected to like certain things and do certain things" of highschool.

Nobody has a problem with me liking Transformers. I'm a sports guy first, though so many people don't see my Transformers side other than close friends and family

I never say anything unless asked first or they reveal their interest in Transformers too.
It was never a conversation starter/friendship maker in school nor with "Friends of friends", so it's not a priority to reveal a hobby that I'm pretty sure won't get me much more than a confused look.

Most of the time I admit it is when someone stumbles upon one of my toys. All I get then is a "Huh" as they fiddle with it. No interesting or facepalming conversations or anything :(

Jeez. While I can't applaud his lackluster fandom, at least he's picked the best one:D

Everyone i know is okay with it. My parents r all "meh" dad likes the live action movies for the military scenes and some of the other sci fi stuff besides the giant fighting robots. mom is not as into the franchise as i am which is fine by me trying to explain things like who is good and who is bad is kinda hard to explain for someone near 50 who grew up b4 this craze. But she does like Bumblebee when i would watch Animated on CN and in the movies. my bf is fine with me liking Transformers lol he teases me when ever we walk by the toys section in a store and i just tell him "hun i would love to by an toy or 2 but right now with my tiny room and lack of money all i can buy is smaller stuff like posters and key chains (if i come across one)"

Come out? Since when is it gay to like Transformers?

I kinda eased back into Transformers about 10 years ago. Other than family, the only people that found out were people I worked with. After I requested time off to go to my first convention in '03.
