Please bear with me, as i'm quite the noooob with painting toys.

Tried my hand today at paining the roof and hood on Sideways, but the black paint is just going on WAY too thick.

I'm using light strokes, small amount of paint, but can't get a smooth finish.

Getting an airbrush isn't really cost effective... i do very little repainting in general.

    Any got any advice?

    Thanks for your patience.

It depends on what type of paint you are using. I strictly use acrylics for the time being. And for those I add a small amount of water to thin it out but not so much to make it a thinned soupy wash. And I paint in thin coat and wait for them to dry before applying another coat.

As for enamels and lacquers I sure you need to use the matching thinners for each one. Not too savvy one those.
