I was getting ready to post those same pictures, Tetris beat me to it.

But I agree, Land is a hack. whatever skills he once had or does have are always going to be overshadowed by all the tracing he does.

Sad thing is that those pictures aren't isolated examples, either. I only picked like...4 instances. You can pick up any issue and you'll literally find dozens per issue. Just Google "Greg Land trace" and you'll see hundreds of side-by-side comparisons of where Land traces. Some people are kind enough to make animated .gifs where you can see how perfectly the tracing matches up.

Just for fun, here's one of his covers. Someone (not me) found five plagiarisms on this cover alone. Mind you, it's just five detected plagiarisms. I'm sure if you look hard enough, you'll see that Land traced in other parts, too.

Also, usually when someone says an artist got inspiration from porn it's a joke. With Land...I'm not so sure. A lot of his women look so perfect, and they have such...happy faces and strange poses, it's not hard to believe he traces from porn. I'm not sure if this NSFW, so I'll just post a link. It's just Land's artwork, out of context. It should be OK to click, but I just wanted to make sure people don't see this unless they want to: http://romosome.pyoko.org/pic/scans/land/landshameless.jpg

I guess I should give Hughes the benefit of the doubt then. But I'm really disapointed in Land. I know I'm slow on the uptake but I had just honestly never seen it discussed on any boards I normally visit before. I guess his work was too good to be true in some ways. I still plan to enjoy my old issues of Sojourn, but I won't be supporting any of Land's work in the future (unless Sojourn ever gets a proper ending, but hopefully Disney'd choose another artist entirely). So I guess my vote goes to Hughes too. His Tomb Raider stuff didn't look too bad from the pics linked in the first post.

how can you love the artwork of someone who doesnt actually draw it? it's like praising pat lee for the work he hired other people to do for him.

greg land's method leads to very inconsistant character models, sue storm's face and hair length/style change between panels for crying out loud.

    Thread Necromancy Time.

Okay, anyways, this not to bash Greg Land (I still think the man is a decent artist, despite the fact he "traces" from some things), but I was looking at an image of Kurt Russell in Executive Decision (you know the movie where Steven Seagal Dies).

He's on the floor of the Airplane I believe, and his mouth is wide open [indicating he's shouting] and it just hit me what that picture reminded me of: In the Namor Arc of Ultimate Fantastic Four, there's a pannel of Dr. Storm shouting to someone after Johnny gets his ass handed to him by Namor, and I remember thinking "Huh, he looks like Kurt Russell...".

I can't find a picture of UF4 Panel I'm talking about but you can find the picture I was describing Here

Anyways this is just an observation, so don't turn this into the Greg-Land Bashing Hour.

    Ebay:
Land traces from porn, then traces his own work that he traced from porn.

This is all anyone really needs to know, he's one of the worst swipe artists in the business.

I have to agree with that. It was actually altered before publication. Still Land's art but the placement of a few characters and Pixie's face was changed.

I like Adam Hughes because he draws an incredible Black Cat. And then Greg will go along and trace said Black Cat. So in the end, I guess I like both artists...? :lolol
