Based on the trailers/commercials, it seems like DOTM is going to have A LOT of actual transformations in the film - something that was really lacking in ROTF. Just from the previews alone, we've seen:

    - Mirage transforming while driving

    - Ironhide and 2 Dreads transforming after crashing into each other

    - a very brief shot of Wheeljack starting to transform

    - the end of an Optimus transformation sequence

    - FOUR different Bumblebee transformations (crashing through fence, driving up to Optimus/Sam, before AND after the Sam wall catch, and while leaping over the debris with Sam)

It's good to see that the filmmakers remembered that Transformers should actually be seen transforming!

Every movies was filled with badass Transformetion sequences, why? Because they are the cooler things invented since Bruce Willis.

    On TF1:
    - Blackout.
    - Optimus.
    - Bumblebee.
    - Ironhide.
    - Jazz.

    On tf2:
    - Devasmuthafuckingtator.
    - Sideways.
    - Jetfire's fusion with Optimus.
    - Optimus again.

To me, it doesn't matter how many times I see these scenes, I will always be amazed by the metal twisting itself back and forth until it forms a vaguely human figure standing there heroicly [Autobots] or viciously [Decepticons].

Yeah. That was seriously lacking from ROTF, probably due to time constraints. It still had some really cool ones, but alot were faked. Glad that they're back in full force!

This. (And added a few too. ;)  ) The first film had just slightly more on-screen transformations than RotF, but with RotF, a lot of them were "cheated' (more-so than the typical "cheating because it's easier on budget and such"-scenario). They were off in the background, shorter, quicker, less focused on and even just "implied" in the sense that [character X] is in vehicle mode now, and three shots later they appear in robot mode, with no transformation noise or nothin'.

Heck, I'm sure there will be more transformations in the 2.5 hour movie than we've seen in ~10 minutes of footage (obviously), so what we've seen is a bare minimum of the whole thing. I certainly hope that Sentinel Prime gets a big epic transformation like Optimus has in both movies. And speaking of Optimus, there's no doubt that he'll have a big introductory transformation a la the previous films. I'd like to see a lot more 'bot-to-vehicle transformations too.

DotM just seems to have gone all out for showing us the goods. Not too much, mind you, but just that what we've seen is 10X better than anything we've witnessed. Pushing the angles, the characters, the cinematography. I mean, come on! We see Bumblebee transform from the outside...catch Sam, roll to the ground and transform back, whilst witnessing it FROM WITHIN. Amazing stuff.

Since the first movie I wondered why Bee hadn't transformed with Sam inside but I guessed he'd get crushed but ovs not :)

Rotf should have been called ROTFLMAO

The transformations are in some ways even more fun to see, for me, than the robots fighting.

    Indeed.

I love robots fighting, but seeing something real and everyday transform into a robot and look photo-real is pretty damn awesome. Especially the life they give it. No two Transformations are the same, they're all unique to the circumstance.

Ironhides transformation at the start of TF2 was awesome. Hopefully we get to see alot more like that in this one. From the looks of the trailers/spots we will.

To elaborate upon your post, Yurre, I made this list a year or two ago, documenting the transformations present in both films, in case anyone cares. (And for reference with DotM).

Transformers (2007) (38 on screen transformations)

    Blackout: Vehicle-to-Robot
    Frenzy: Stereo-to-Robot
    Barricade: Vehicle-to-Robot

    Barricade: Vehicle-to-Robot
    Bumblebee: Robot-to-Vehicle
    Protoforms: Meteor-to-Robot
    Optimus Prime: Vehicle-to-Robot
    Autobots: Vehicles-to-Robots
Autobots: Robots-to-Vehicles (Bumblebee in centre, other Autobots in background)
Bumblebee: Vehicle-to-Robot (jumps in air to save Sam and Mikaela)
    Jazz: Vehicle-to-Robot (hidden behind pillar)
    Starscream: Vehicle-to-Robot
    Megatron: Robot-to-Vehicle
    Starscream: Robot-to-Vehicle
    Megatron: Vehicle-to-Robot
Starscream: Vehicle-to-Robot (above three, all same shot)
Bumblebee: Robot-to-Vehicle (see tail-end of it)
    Bonecrusher: Vehicle-to-Robot
    Optimus Prime: Vehicle-to-Robot
Ironhide: Vehicle-to-Robot (only see the top half of him)
    Ironhide: Vehicle-to-Robot (slow-motion)
    Jazz: Vehicle-to-Robot
Brawl: Vehicle-to-Robot (same shot as above)
    Megatron: Vehicle-to-Robot (kills Jazz)
Blackout: Vehicle-to-Robot (hard to see, and only get part of it)
    Blackout: Robot-to-Vehicle and then Vehicle-to-Robot
    Starscream: Vehicle-to-Robot
    Starscream: Robot-to-Vehicle
    Optimus Prime: Vehicle-to-Robot
    Megatron: Robot-to-Vehicle
    Megatron: Vehicle-to-Robot
    Starscream: Vehicle-to-Robot
    Blackout: Vehicle-to-Robot
    Starscream: Vehicle-to-Half-Robot
    Starscream: Robot-to-Vehicle
    Starscream: Vehicle-to-Robot

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen (2009) (35 on screen transformations)

    Ironhide: Vehicle-to-Robot
    Demolishor: Vehicle-to-Robot
    Arcee (units): Vehicle-to-Robot(s)
    Sideways: Vehicle-to-Robot
    Sideways: Robot-to-Vehicle
The Twins: Vehicle-to-Robot(s) (in background, hard to see)
    Sideswipe: Vehicle-to-Robot
    Optimus Prime: Vehicle-to-Robot

    Megatron: Vehicle-to-Robot
    Wheelie: RC Vehicle-to-Robot
    Alice: Human-to-Pretender
Scalpel, the Doctor: Microscope-to-Robot (Cut short)
Megatron: Robot-to-Vehicle (hard to see/off screen)
    Optimus Prime: Vehicle-to-Robot
Megatron: Vehicle-to-Robot (same shots as above)
    Grindor: Vehicle-to-Robot
    Starscream: Vehicle-to-Robot
    Megatron and Starscream: Vehicles-to-Robots
    Megatron: Vehicle-to-Robot (Empire State Building)

The main difference being that RotF featured an extensive amount of cheating, cutting the transformations short, only seeing part of it, etc., as I explained above.

I'd be surprised if he gets one in DOTM. Ever since Movie 1, especially with that clip posted above, I've assumed that there is no proper Ratchet transformation. That back part is too complicated, and to me it doesn't look like it "fits". In that clip above, it just sort of appears and unfolds out of thin air.

The four I will always be enthralled by are:
    Blackout's first
    Brawl
Optimus after jumping off the plane
    and Devastator

ROTF did have Transformations, it's just that they fucking sucked. Most of them we're too close to the camera to tell what the hell was going on.

(Like ironhides transformation at the opening, and jetfires parts going onto Optimus, never once were we given a clear shot of what optimus looked like with the parts on, it was zoomed in to just his chest.)

Devastators was ruined by cutting back and forth to simmons and leos expressions.

ROTF really had some lame transformations now that I think about it....

Even though everyone thought it was nergasmic, the Optimus out of the cargo plane transforming into a truck onto the highway was INCREDIBLY cheesy and lame.

Man I wish ROTF was never made, and we went straight into DOTM.

Perhaps they will use more transformations to take advantage of this being the first time that we will see a transformation in good 3D. Kind of a way to recapture that wow factor again.

It could also be a case of when they started to make a list of the things people liked in the Transformers movies that a clear shot of the transformations was high on the list of things people liked.
