I chanced upon the new Activators and got Optimus Prime. Posting some pics and a short review as I've not seen many for this.

    Articulation:
Head rotates sideways, moves up and down a tiny bit
Shoulders swivel up and down and rotate 360 degrees
    Fists don't move at all
    No waist rotation
    Feet on hinge joints

Mine came with tight joints, very stable when stood. The arms are very articulate, but the legs have very limited movement due to back panels blocking the knee hinges. Overall has a FAB aesthetic.

I'm quite disappointed by the auto-conversion. It's somehow not as impressive as Bumblebee's. The arms remain folded in a chicken-dance position, giving it an incomplete, comical look.

The instructions doesn't mention it, but you need to squeeze the body (front and back) for it clamp down properly into alt mode.

A short video of the activation:

    Ewww.

    Disapointing to say the least.

Animated Activators were a pleasent surprise, this is just odd.

I was originally going to get Prime, but I think I'll go with Bumblebee. Prime doesn't look bad, but he looks a little odd, proportions-wise.

Thanks for the review! I love the SD style of Prime and Bee and am really looking forward to them. Are you going to review Bumblebee?

Megatron was available too, but I don't plan on getting any more of these, at least not at full retail. There's an excellent video review on these boards for Bumblebee.

I really don't know what they were thinking with the SD design of these ~ much as i loathe Animated, then Animated Activators were really tight little toys that could fit right in with other figures (hence they made exclusive characters in that line). These are just so ridiculously kiddified, that i feel like a kid wouldn't even want them...

just making the heads proportional would be a HUGE step...

great Xmas gifts for my kids! My boys LOVE the activators size. Most of the people forget it is for the kids! Yes... CHILDREN. Both by chronological age as well as mental age. These children LOVE the simpler Transformers. Sure, they'd love to have Leader Class Prime, but it's just too much for a 6 year old handle with typical playtime.

I'm glad Hasbro is continuing with Activators. I say Bravo!

They were thinking, "Hey, a lot of people like SD so lets try something new that incorporates that style."

    Step 2: PROFIT

HFTD uses Yellow packaging, PCC's use green (if I remember right), and everything else (exclusives, generations, activators, RPM's, etc.) use red packaging.

PCC uses red packaging too, I think.

I might get Megatron. Not sure just yet though.

    Nice review and pics.
The only I like about this toy is the head.

i think most kids know when they are being pandered too though ~ when i was a kid i hated that my SW figs and Transformers didn't look more like their onscreen counterparts. The Animated Activators were just so good looking, sculpt wise they stayed very on-model, i'm really surprised they went this route. I'm not against simplified TFs, i have a soon-to-be 3-year-old and think it's a great idea, i'm just against this execution...

Is it really? i thought that in general the SD fad ended 3/4 years ago...
