Gyakuten Saiban (
This looks fantastic.
I'm getting mixed signals.
Movie based on video game? I don't think there's EVER been a good one of those...
Movie based on the idea of a lawyer who has impossible hairstyling? If Japan can make anything work, they can make Pheonix work.
End result: I have no idea how this is going to turn out.
Why not just make it an animated film?
I have no idea what is going on. Sometimes videogames should just be left as videogames. This could turn out to be incredibly awesome or incredibly stupid.
Would much rather see Metroid or Metal Gear be made into a movie, be it live action, animated, or cg.
100 times this. Live Action Phoenix Wright just seems wrong.
Metal Gear Solid would make an awesome movie, as long as it was both cast and directed right (although the same could be said of any movie with a half-decent plot, really).
The good thing is that we know if it ever happens, Kojima himself will be there watching ever aspect of it very carefully.
Then again, I'm sure he is well aware of how much Hollywood messes up "anything->film" adaptations, which is probably why he strives so much to make his games seem like cinematic blockbusters as a way to excuse his creations from being turned into actual films.
This is how anime/video games movie translations should be made!
Looks neat. Hope it's brought over to the U.S. in some shape or form.
I think it's cool that Takashi Miike (of Audition and 13 Assassins fame, plus many more) is directing this. Hope he brings the spirit of the games to the screen. From the looks of things, he's doing a pretty good job.
Though, I wonder what Wright is doing on the right side, as opposed to the left, like the games. LOL
Not gonna lie, this would be a "day one" for me if it came out over here. This looks great, and way more faithful than I expected.
I would actually like an interactive DVD game instead. Seeing Phoenix Wright become a movie makes it lose all the alternate endings and scenarios the games had.
This looks like a straight adaptation of the first game.
Although the actor they picked to represent "von Karma" (don't know his Japanese name) looks... significantly less gaunt.
I'm kinda surprised Capcom never optioned the franchise for an anime series. With the general popularity of mystery series (like the ongoing Detective Conan, or more recently, Gosick), or detective thrillers (like Death Note), Ace Attorney could've been a real hit in that medium as well. Especially with the over-the-top courtroom antics in full animation, rather than the limited sprites of the games.
Also, I just wanna hear Liam O'Brien as Edgeworth. He'd be perfect for that role.
Where is the Detective?
Hahah, when I saw this thread, I thought it said "Rattrap: The Movie" because my brain mixed up your username & the topic title.
Just figured that was worth mentioning.
This looks fun. Supposedly they want to make a live action Layton movie as well.
This should not have been made... Video Game movies always turn out as failures.
HOLD IT! This has already been done!
Already been done.
Usually, but not always. I love me some Resident Evil, and the Professor Layton animated movie is awesome.
This needs a cheesy official dub using the Phoenix Wright names. If some idiot fansubs it with Japanese names and Japanese expressions followed by *translator's notes* then I refuse to watch it.
Separate names with a comma.
