Sometimes it also comes down to the number of individual paint apps rather than the amount of paint, so Grimlock has a lot of generalised but undetailed paint while Megatron has lots of more small, detailed gold paint apps. I’ve often noticed that some figures have extra paint in places they don’t need it when it’s missing elsewhere (like TLK Optimus with the extra silver of the crotch flap) and I can only surmise that this is because it’s less work to paint a larger section in one application than painting two or three smaller, more intricate sections.

 

He'll go really good with the other voyager Optimi considering the studio series version is so tiny.

 

The new TT image in the front page he's shown with metallic paint though.

 

But also that proto means nothing, it easily could be the same one from the Toyfair.

He's going to be released in july.


Either way, i'm waiting for WeiJiang's OS.

That's disgusting that they show a figure in a "what could have been" light.....then come time to release it; it's THAT bland mess.

These types of things Hasbro pulls on fans makes it harder and harder and harder to keep supporting them.

It's been 30 years dude. I think by now we can safely assume any "silver" figure is going to be grey. Why is this a shock to you?

Thing is, I can paint grey plastic silver. Many people can. I can't however make an accurate ROTF Megatron, especially with a headsculpt that good.

 

You may have missed my point.

It's not that I'm appalled by the use of the gray color....it's SHOWING it at a Toy Show one way, then releasing it another way that gets me aggravated.

 

Also not uncommon. Most of the products shown off at these expos are either pre-production samples or hand-painted items.

 

I’m sure it’s not done with any malice. There are always prototypes on display, quite often with handpainted silver where the final product ends up with a silverish or grey plastic. It’s not like they only displayed the painted prototype; a final product was on display clearly for all to see. It works the other way too. The SS voyager Optimus on display at one of the toy fairs had the flames just stuck on, not painted.
