I remember everyone speculating about the identity of that Transformer back then when we had the first few teasers. Ironhide or Starscream? I think no one said it was Optimus, I thought that was funny, especially since the design of the lower legs is exactly what you find on the toy, which had been seen already at the time.

I think the conclusion was that it was Ironhide. He slips through some trees around to the front of the house and takes the form of the rich suburbanite's over-the-top bigger-than-your-SUV GMC TopKick.

It's clearly Ironhide, he's the one closest to the truck he turns into

Everyone who had read the script knew that it was Ironhide but no one would listen to us.

It would not make any sense whatsoever if it weren't Ironhide.
From a film-editing point of view:
First you have a scene of a protoform coming out of a pool, then you see the black truck (GMC TopKick) morph and take it's shape.
I don't see how it could be any clearer.

All the decepticons were on Earth long before the Autobots (except BumbleBee) came - Well known fact (the comics, the novel, the film script itself and the game all confirm this)

Some people were confused over if it was Prime or Ironhide after they had seen the movie.

Given Prime crashes in the middle of nowhere, gets up and runs away, then he's seen on a hill overlooking a road in the middle of nowhere, its safe to say the pool guy isn't Prime.

Isn't it just like Prime to land in an open field and cause as little property damage as possible? Everyone else destroys something. :p

it's not prime man, they had one protoform model in the movie and used it for all the autobots basically, maybe slightly altered.
