Already hit some snags, so I added a couple of notes above. To summarize:

    1. I'd appreciate it if you make me an offer when you PM me.

    2. I've forgotten that TFW has a large Canadian viewership, which made me realize that I'm unfamiliar with shipping things to Canada. Can anyone let me know what the best options for shipping to Canada are, and what customs procedures need to be observed?

Please be patient with me, this is a bit of a learning process, but I'm trying to be honest about it so I don't end up offending the entire Junkion Exchange. Thank you.

Its good that you are considerate enough to ask these types of questions. Now, I'll just make this clear, whenver an item is sent to Canada and its value is declared at under $25 Canadian (or like $20 US), it is exempt from all taxes and brokerage fees and cannot be shipped via any method. If it is marked as a "gift" and not obviously from a retail store (I.E. if it says on the package from BBTS, the declaring it as a "gift" does absolutely nothing), it is exempt from taxes up to a declared value of $60 Canadian (or like $50 US) but in some case may be charged taxes (like if the post office missed that it was marked as a "gift"). These can be refunded, but it takes a long time.

Now, the difference between sending the item via USPS (the United States Postal Service) and the other methods (UPS/DHL/FEDEX/other) is that USPS, hands over the package to Canada Post, where it is processed without the aid of a broker. UPS/DHL/Fedex/other otn the other hands, must use a broker and consequently have a brokerage fee. The broker charges fees based on their role in processing the package (customs, taxes, duties etc), sort of like a tax broker. This turns out to be rather expensive. Via Canada Post, the only thing that is charged is tax and a $5 handling fee.

In short, if the item is less that $20 US ($50 US if a gift), it doesn't matter which method you use, although, USPS is quite a bit slower. USPS, is the only one that can ship directly to a P.O. Box. However, if the item is significantly more, the difference is charges across the border, can be about %30-%40 of the price of the actual item, vs. around %15 (more or less depending on which province you are from) + $5 for Canada Post (USPS).

Americans are lucky in this regard as they can receive items up to a value of $200 US from Canada completely exempt of taxes.

    A few followup questions:

    1. Are there forms that I need to fill out at the post office, or do I just write "GIFT" on the outside of the box?

    2. Are the taxes and handling fees assessed when I mail the package, or do I get sent a bill after it hits the border?

    3. Is it common for the seller to pass the $5 handling fee to the buyer, or do they usually just take it?
