With the recent passing of Bob Papenbrook, who played Mega Octane/Ruination in Robots in Disguise, as well as the death of Barry Stigler, who played Scourge, last year, I felt fitting to do a tribute to these guys.

Several years ago, I was ecstatic, because I finally got to see the Fox network on television. At the time, I just wanted it to watch Digimon, but as I sat down to watch Fox Kids, another show drew me in: Robots in Disguise. This show would have a profound effect on me, because it made me a Transfan. Because it drove me to join the fandom, and eventually, led me to this place, The Allspark.

And my first episode I got to see?

    "The Decepticons."

The characters played by both Bob and Barry were a major part of this episode, and they would remain so in the series. Scourge, the scheming subcommander, and Mega Octane, his right hand man and the core of the monstrous Ruination. They were the two of the first Transformers villains to engross me, along with Sky-Byte and the Predacon trio.

Today, Mega Octane is but a blip on the character radar to many fans, and Scourge is maligned for starting the "black repaint trend", in America at least. But for all that may or may not be said about them, about Japanese TF series, and about RiD itself, those two characters hold a special place in my heart.

That's why I made this... a somewhat unoriginal collage of screenshots from RiD, that I got off of RiD Forever. It's not much... heck, I made it in paint. But I felt like I had to do something.

Goodbye, Bob. Goodbye, Barry. To this fandom, you're not held in anywhere near as much prestige as Peter Cullen, Gary Chalk, David Kaye, or Frank Welker. But you were something to me... a worthy and meaningful part to the series that MADE me a Transfan.

Thank you, thank you both. And may you rest in peace.

They're up there with Crothers and Latta as far as I'm concerned. May both of them rest in peace.

RID may not get as much love as other series, but at least those who love it won't ever let it be forgotten.

The Decepticons in RID may have been all repaints, but damn if they weren't cool enough to stand on their own.

I, for one, missed the comedy in this series. However, it's still cool! Though I'm mainly an Autobot/Maximal person...

    "DECEPTICONS, FOREVER!!!"

Bob Papenbrook and Barry Stigler, I salute you!

while I missed RID, I remember Papenbrook for his role as ShadowBorg in the beetleborgs series. His voice was killer in that show!
    may he rest in peace
