I think the fandom CREATES people with narcissistic personality disorder. I shit you not I've had a guy tell me that he thinks he's hot shit because of what he, and I quote, "contributes to this fandom". How can you talk to someone like that? That person simply has no self awareness. I think we can enjoy childish things while not being childish ourselves. When it comes to a segment of the community, though, I find that idea to be lacking. I've had a few encounters with guys/gals that... I don't know what's going through their heads. They somehow think that by attaining some sort of 'senior' position within the fandom that they're 'somebody'. It's the damn strangest thing I've ever encountered. Personally, that's why I consider myself a hobbyist and not a fan. I enjoy this stuff, but I'm not invested - nor do I care - about some of the ideas that go along with being a 'fanboy'. I've had enormous idiots tell me that they're somehow 'truer' fans because they contribute to the fandom (video reviews or taking pictures) and that I'm just a leech or some other idiotic way of thinking. Like I said, I truly can't grasp what's going through their brains. So to answer the question: No, I don't consider myself a manchild. I have other pursuits and hobbies that I enjoy, and if transformers went away tomorrow I'd be upset for sure, but I would easily move on with my life.
