Saw the new movie tonight with the wife. Nobody cares what I think, so no reason to share :)

However - my wife posed an interesting question that I couldn't answer.

Why does the Cube engery only create bad robots?

In the first movie, the cube made that little Nokia phone into a Bad mo-fo under the glass. When it was dropped, you got the Mt. Dew bot, and the car attacked the girls.

This time - when Sam drops the shard all of the kitchen bots go after him.

Why are they all bad? She thought it would have been more interesting had the shard randomly created good/bad 'bots.

    Has this ever been explained?

All Shard bots have very under-developed brains and thus attack everything in self defence.

In the first film it was said that a lot of modern technology is based on designs that were created by studying megatron and his technology. As such, anything brought to life by the cube would have some connection to megatron and as such be evil

There's a ton of really weak reasons/excuses/explanations for things like this floating around (of course ONLY on TF forums), but there's no official 411 ever delivered in the movies themselves... which obviously leaves all the general movie goers left scratching their heads:

Where did the 'bad guy police car' go? Why are all the Allspark robots instantly evil? Why are dead characters from TF1 walking around in TF2? How is it that the same thing used to kill Megatron in TF1 brings him back to life in TF2? How and why are so many characters that look exactly same in two or three different places all at once? Where the hell did that new Autobot come from? Why is there a tank in TF1 named Devastator and now there's a giant combining robot in TF2 also named Devastator? How come Bumblebee can't talk again even though he got his voice back in TF1? Why do those stupid twin guys look like deformed retards? Who the hell were those 3 motorcycle female things? If they can scan and turn into whatever they look at, why don't the Autobots take the forms of something more useful than street cars?

Those and SO many more questions are all perfectly valid & reasonable, and unless you surf over to one of these forums to ask them, you'll never know the answers. And most of the time they're not even answers - they're usually just half baked fanboy theories dreamt up for the sake of trying to explain astonishingly horrible, horrible, horrible writing & directing.

This question was posed at Botcon 2007 to the movie writers at one of the panels. They basically said that they wanted to parallel a Transformers "birth" to that of the spiritual side of human beings as described in the bible: that we are all born inherently bad and that it is a choice that one makes to become one of the good guys. This is further reconfirmed in the discussion between Jetfire and Wheelie in ROTF where Jetfire specifically says, it's a personal choice.
