It might have to do with the toy having to meet safety standards (a three-part bumper might be more fragile than a piece that is composed of a single piece of plastic)

Based entirely on Hasbro's thinking of recent, I think it's more likely a budget issue. Cost less to have one big piece then three smaller pieces that require a hinge and for a line that already is leaps and bounds better then Generations in sculpt, detail, articulation, complexity and paint apps I can see why they stopped short of doing this when the figure is pretty much 95% awesome for who the character is base on.

Maybe, but they already knew these were going to be more expensive/marked up for us from the outset. Also, regarding part count and/or safety I'm not so sure that's on point because the SS figures (Megatron being an exception) come with additional accessories.

What does the $3-5 mark up on each price point for the SS line equate to for them, really?

It's debatable what that mark up truly translates to on their end, and ultimately it's just conjecture on our part without truly knowing the reason from the source. Well, that's how I see it anyways!

Personally, it did give me something to do besides enjoy an awesome figure... MODIFY!!! LOL.

    I'm enjoying the discussion!

This makes a lot of sense given how a bigger than leader sized figure like the recent Cyberverse Optimus and Megatrons are only $30 bucks yet a leader hits $44 minimum and higher for PotP Rodimus and Optimus for instance.

Less profit per figure for each one that already has a lot of money put into it. With how good the SS series I can understand if they came out and said it's a low profit margin line for them. So far, even the repaints look pretty damn good so far with a lot of attention put into each one, I'm jealous of the SS line cause it makes Generations, what use to be my favorite line, look like cheap Playskool crap.

I'm definitely replacing much of my old movie collection with these new SS ones.

I just wish some of them weren't so small. SS Jazz is fantastic but I had no idea he was that small until I saw him at the store and bought him. I was hoping to add him to my existing collection scale-wise but the SS I guess are intended to scale to their own line (which explains why Optimus is also relatively small as well). I have SS Stinger/now Knockout, Lockdown and SS old camaro Bumblebee. Just got to get Ironhide and Ratchet.

Nice work. I'm considering trying this, but I have to ask, how did you widen the hole in the hinge?

Wow. And thank you for introducing that small nylon hinge. I could really use some of those. Never known they existed before.
