thats either the greatest thing ever, or as fake as pamela anderson's boobs. the bit where it walks looks too "puppety" to me.

I wonder if Hasbro could sponsor an engineering contest for some colleges to build something like this. I know that there's contests for solar powered cars and that sort of thing- it'd be interesting so see what folks could come up with, especially with guidelines that (a) it turns into a vehicle able to go forward, back, and turn and (b) it turns into a humanoid-shaped robot that can walk, position its arms, and turn its head. Other limitations such as materials cost, dimensions, and reliability could also be involved. The winning team could get, say $10,000, and have their product displayed ta ToyFair and such. Howzabout it, Hasbro?

I totally agree with Omegatron1. If Hasbro ever wanted to get involved in some of the college-grade education programs (like Lego has,) this would be one of the fastest/best steps towards getting there. A "real life Transformer" design competition would certainly cull the best and the brightest from the various engineering schools out there...and, although I know Hasbro doesn't really have to worry about much financially thanks to all of its trademarked brands, the type of press/publicity this would generate in the academic world could bring Hasbro into the light as a lego-like company with similar interests in robotic design and construction.

Put some decent paint apps and stickers on it and I'll buy two of 'em. I'd even go for the repaint. :D

Well, this beats the robot fighting competition video by a mile.

Anyway, this looks real to me. The movement appears unrealistic because it's sliding on its footplates rather than shifting its weight. Most bipedal robots use that method because it's much easier to build and program.
