This might sound like a weird question. How did Megatron manage to get frozen in the Arctic, where in space these alien robots manage to walk around with no issues? Outer space is a lot colder than the arctic I assume..

The temperatures of the moon tend to depend on what side you are standing on and how far on the dark side you are on.

Its pretty warm on the light side of the moon - and the Ark wasn't really that far into the Dark Side - so I'm going to say they would have been fine if not a little chilly.

Space isn't cold actually, that's a very common misconception.

Hmm, good question. Maybe when he crashed under the ice, the ice frozen up his joints and stuff so he couldnt move?

Or the fact that he flies to Mars where ever the Nemisis is hiding... quite out of reach of the suns lovely glare.

Space isn't cold. An object radiates off heat slowly.

Megatron was submerged in subzero temperature waters.

Dry cold vs moisture freezing into ice within his joints etc etc.

    Better question:

How did they extract Megatron from the ice without him unfreezing to a desert climate thousands of miles away?

It's the moisture. There is no moisture in space, so nothing to lock the joints or coat the circuits.

It was explained in the prequel novel for TF1. (Ghosts of Yesterday) They moved him using refrigeration containers in '69.

Its called the dark side of the moon because here on Earth we never see it. Not because it never gets sunlight out in orbit.

It wasn't the cold, it was the ice forming between his joints which prevented him from moving. Really people need to stop assuming that just because ice affects something it's only the fact that it's cold.

The OP wasn't asking how Megatron crashed, but rather why he froze after he crashed if he was able to travel in outer space. The answer is because space being cold like the Arctic and freezing you is false.

Megaton froze up because as he entered our atmosphere he rapidly heated. Then as you know he crash landed in the arctic. After he crashed the ice rapidly froze around him immobilizing him and eventually imprisoning him.

I'm aware however the place they landed to get to the Ark had no sunlight at the time thus it was dark at that time.

My wording was a bit off so I apologize.

Going from being extreme heat to sudden below freezing cold shocked his systems which lead to his body locking up and becoming encased in ice.
